Which buffet lamps to use?
Comments (6)Thanks for the help! ItÂs unanimous. The silver wins. I think I have a lamp fetish, otherwise why did I buy the red ones? In the store the red shades looked burgundy. But they have some gold in the fabric which tilts the balance toward orange-y in daylight. I can return them. If I canÂt think of another place to use them. I tried them out on the mahogany upright piano, and they looked interesting, except that they donÂt give enough light to play by. I would still have to have a piano lightÂand 3 lamps on one piano? IÂm thinking about adding some color to the silver ones: maybe a touch of gold on the wreath and the base. I have a gold rococo mirror on the adjacent wall IÂd like to tie in. IÂm planning to add some amber tones to the wall color. The 3 framed pieces are recent and I need to tie them in better. I have to wait to paint that and the bottom until I can open windows, DH is too sensitive to paint. But if I have my decisions and paint ready, I can go for it whenever it warms up. teacatsÂa mirror is an interesting idea! What shape were you thinking of? The buffet shape makes me think long and low. But I have a lot of mirrors in the house already; I think at least one in every room. (Considering I donÂt like to look in them, I wonder whyÂ). Maybe I can move one over, though all of them are more vertical, not horizontal. IÂll shoot those too and ask....See MoreBedside tables...Matching Bedroom Lamps?
Comments (15)Thanks Ladies, I have nothing in the house that matches, since I was doing matching end tables, I thought I should match the lamps. I have them up on my end tables now, and the one I chose for me is more delicate and the one for Cliff is more "manly" LOL...So if i don't find the mate to mine (it's the one I really love) I can live with the mismatched lamps.. Please more opinions are welcomed. If I get a chance, I'll take some pics of the lamps for a sneak preview. We finished the drapes and cornices and I love it. Hubby does all the sewing cause we have a big commercial machine and I make him nervous when I sew. The speed is very fast and hard to control and I sew with my fingers close to the foot. He doesn't want to make the trip to the emergency ward when I put the needle through my finger. I also have a wicker chair that I want to make new pillows for, as well and refinishing the antique wash stand. Lots to do... Mitchdesi, how big are your end tables? I also have ecclectic look -- pecan furniture and a wicker and iron headboard. I now want a British Colonial feel to the bedroom... I currently have wicker end tables that are about 22" high and 21" x 21" so the big tables are going to be a leap....See MoreWould you consider using a dresser as a buffet/sideboard?
Comments (22)You're welcome Anele. It may not have worked, but knowing that can be a big help. Although who knows? Sometimes the "wrong" things can work perfectly in the right settings. I find that until you try something, you are never sure if it will work for you or not. That's why as I didn't stop when making the virtual. The main thing is that it makes *you* happy and works for *you*. Not everyone here at GW. Because if you try to do that you'll never get anything done. Personally I like a wide variety of styles of furniture. Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, Victorian....Basically anything older than MCM. Newer furniture just doesn't have the woods or is built like the older stuff was. In my opinion anyway. I also think it's very important to reuse. I'm not saying I don't like some of the newer furniture, but I'm not passionate about. You'll know when you find the right piece. I just hope it fits your space! Since we're on the subject of dresser being used for other purposes I bought this piece pictured below a few weeks ago to turn into an entertainment center if I ever talk my hubby into getting a flat screen TV. Once cleaned up I'll stain it dark walnut, freshen the hardware with spray paint if Brasso doesn't work first then convert the drawers behind the doors to hold the cable and the sound system boxes. The other drawers will be used for storing movies. This could easily work for a buffet too. I only paid $5.49 for it. Half price furniture day at a local thrift store. Do you have a picture of you dining room? I'm thinking I've seen it, but I could be mixed up about that. My brain is much better with long term memory....See MoreHelp with bedside tables and lamps
Comments (10)What would you think of tables painted a color from your beautiful spread? I love the red below, but probably not with your blue drapery or chair cushion. Perhaps something green, which looks like the color of your walls, or blue to coordinate with the drapes? I think the color takes these out of the traditional realm. You could probably find some great tables on CL and paint them whatever color you like....See MoreUser
