Kitchen: Old Metal +Plastic Wall Tiles/paint or remove?

Hello, Our new house has some very Old Plastic Wall Tiles on two walls, these have already been painted by previous owner! Should we try to Remove these - HOW to proceed - or just re-paint them the same color as the rest of the walls, above? And the wall above the stainless steel sink counter has some Old Metal Tiles - Help? Guess these will have to be removed, do you have any experience with Old Wall Tiles - were they attached with some kind of mastic? So how do we remove the residue? Hope that the walls will not be damaged!

The Kitchen has vintage Steel Cabinets that need to be Painted, also! Any ideas on colors for the cabinets and the walls? If we do re-paint the Old Plastic Tiles, will we regret it? Or will the chance of having the old plaster walls, damaged, be worse?

There is a picture of the Kitchen: the Wall Tiles and the Steel Cabinets on the Kitchen photo gallery, just added this picture on August 5th. Thank you for looking, Rose
