Cabinets flush with fridge?
Comments (9)IKEA makes 24" deep fridge cabinets. So you should definitely get one of those instead of the 12" one you have shown. After that, yes, you can build a frame behind it if you like to bring it even more to the front of the fridge if your fridge is deeper than counter depth. IMO do NOT bring out the 15" cabinet between sink and fridge. You will make that important piece of countertop useless. Also you may need some space between fridge and wall to accommodate opening the fridge handle into the wall. I believe many recommend 5-7" . In order to make the kitchen look nicer (and, I think, support the large over fridge cabinet?) you should also install a cover panel between the fridge and sink run. There is a 36" deep x 8 foot high oven cover panel that looks really nice on the side of the fridge, especially if you do bring the cabinet above the fridge out. It will need to be cut at the back and maybe the top depending on how high your cabinets go. If you post your kitchen plan either here or at IKEAFANS you will probably get lots of great advice. I would imagine ultimate kitchen layout wizard tbb123 would lend their time as they so often do to kit out amazing IKEA kitchens. Comments (14)Kristin - our fridge is counter depth. We have a filler at the wall but not between the fridge and pantry. Both fridge and pantry doors open fine without the filler, but a filler would have kept the pantry door from bumping the side of the fridge when opened past 90 degrees (which it doesn’t need to be, but people do it). To keep the pantry door from getting dinged I put a small rubber stop like is in the cabinet doors on the bottom of the fridge side. Not very noticeable but does the job. I think a filler on both sides would have looked fine, but it just wasn’t something discussed when we were planning because it wasn’t technically necessary for the doors to fully open, like the filler at the wall was. I don’t think the filler being out further would look funny. The fillers just look like part of the cabinetry. Our pantry and fridge cab are 24”, just like the other cabinets. The counter depth fridge sticks out slightly past that, but I am ok with that. Some people wouldn’t be. Little stopper shown below...See MoreFlush inset for panel ready built in fridge?
Comments (23)Just for the record, if the fridge has the correct hinges, and if the cabinets have sufficient depth, then it is possible to recess a panel ready fridge. This is what our SubZero built-in fridge (not the integrated model!) looks like: You can tell that it is not fully integrated. The gaps around the doors are different from the rest of the cabinets. Personally, I prefer this look. But I understand that not every fridge can be installed this way. And it does require some amount of experience by the cabinet maker. I think, but I am not 100% certain, my cabinet maker was able to get detailed instructions from SubZero how he had to build the cabinet in order to achieve the desired look. Other manufacturers might not be quite as forthcoming with this information....See MoreHandles for an panel ready fridge. Manufacture v. Cabinet handles?
Comments (4)Thanks for your help. I think the way to go is NOT use the cabinet handles but to find an appliance version of the handles similar to my cabinet handles. This would be a cleaner look. The manufacture handles are large and stainless steel and would look odd with the rest of the kitchen and would defeat the purpose of an integrated Panel Ready fridge. Thanks everyone...See MoreRelated Professionals
