Thanks for the messages... I have had some quotes for under $2000 now, one for $1500 one for $1900. iinsic thanks for the great suggestion about granite tiles. That is really an outstanding idea. So what do I need to build that will support granite tiles? Basically I will have two heights on the bar, one standard cabinet height with just cabinets installed with no countertop (so you can see right into the cabinet), then I have a 2x6 wall constructed that is 40.5" tall for the bar height that people sit at... do I need to build some kind of support structure for the tiles? I'll be thrilled if I can knock out a granite tile bartop for $500 ish.

Pam...where we're you when we spent weeks on end in hospital with our baby? Waaaaaa Anyhoo, I don't have a pic but we stayed in a hotel in Houston (while at hospital there lol) that was basically the set up geokid shared, only that was built into an alcove with doors that looked like a large amoire. I plan on doing the same in our master suite. For our guest suites we have an old side board that holds a kurig and all of the necessary items for coffee and tea in the center hall on the fourth floor because I hate to see guests hike down to the main floor for a cup of coffee. But given your proposed use, and having spent a few years doing the hospital thing I would say that adding the fridge and microwave would be a really special thing for your guests. No matter how nice you are or your guests are, sometimes the hospital stuff is overwhelming and you just want some private space to be alone with a nice glass of wine or cup of tea to sit and process it all. I'm off on my soap box but if you could just picture the above duplicated into an alcove with beautiful amoire style doors closing it off from the room...you would have a perfect accompaniment to your restful guest suite. And on behalf of your guests...thank you. You don't know how many will never forget what you are doing for them...even if they are too overwhelmed to say so at the time.

Wow. Not good. Going through something similar right now. Wife and I are redoing the master bath. Using a company I have dealt with for years and know well. 2 Kohler 2882 rectangle sinks. Cutout should be 17 x 12 9/16 and they cut 17 x 13. No lip overhang on front and back and you can see the gap underneath. Waiting on template because they evidently didn't use the one you download from Kohler. Had a long talk with their head guy and he suggests bigger sinks which is ok if we can find one. Other option is he said has no money in it and would consider refunding my money and ending the deal instead of basically paying me and putting in a new top. Seriously? I did not cut it out, they had the sink to go by and we are not happy with how it looks. I have been building cabinets for 30 years in high end homes and if I make a mistake (which rarely happens because I am meticulous on dimension taking) I build it over and fix it. Not happy right now with what is developing but will know more hopefully in a day or so when they see the Kohler template in person.

Hi, Boxerpups gave some great visuals and advice but I'll add mine anyway. We have plywood under our granite, it's supported on one side with cabinets and then goes into a 15 1/2" overhang. We made a support ledge on peninsula wall side and then added three 12" x 8" counter brackets. Husband & I did not want fancy bulky corbels to cover brackets, we wanted something shallow so we hollowed out/routed some standard moulding from HD to mimic spice cab doors and painted to match upper cabinets. The first few pictures were taken from the floor.
