We have oak floors and love them too. We chose red birch cabs. They are absolutely gorgeous in their natural state, but it was too much brown. I really wanted a contrast so we had them stained. It is a custom color, but our starting point was Home Depot's 'cabernet'. The stain is a dark reddish brown, but it was "lightened" a bit by the builder so that the beautiful grain still shows through, yet it matches the garnet spots on our granite perfectly. I love how it turned out. The dark cabs and the warm floor are lovely next to each other. Many people assume we have cherry at first glance. One of these days, I've got to figure out how to post pictures.

Our old kitchen had white cabinets, and they looked good next to the oak flooring as well. There are some beautiful kitchens in the FKB with painted cabinets and oak floors. It is a classic look.

Depends on the look you're going for. In my house, I want all eyes to skip right past the kitchen and look out our ginormous 10' slider to the backyard, so I'm going for oak base cabs that will blend in with our oak floors.

We have oak floors as well. Our old cabinets were white and looked good, as someone else mentioned. We are now going with alder cabinets, with a medium-dark stain. Our designer suggested that oak cabinets would be too much competing oak grain with the floor, but that alder with a milder grain would look better. We'll see how it looks when we're done!

We have (QS red) oak floors and (QS white) oak cabinets. To prevent it from being too much oak, we stained the cabinets a rich reddish brown color (MW Red Oak, but the QS white oak is so hard it doesn't get too red) and are doing the floors with a natural finish. The floors are schedule to be finished next week, so unfortunately I can't share the complete package yet, but here are a couple pics to give you the idea.

And the floor will be finished the same color as the stair treads. (The risers, skirt board and railing match the cabinetry)

We did almost the opposite of jaymeilo did....we have quartersawn white oak floors that we are leaving natural and red oak cabinets stained English Pecan. I am really happy with the contrast.

One, I wouldn't feel guilty of covering the wood with paint if creamy white distressed is what you want then that is what you should have. Two, if you decide to keep your cabs as is - I do suggest a stain on the floor that is a contrast to the cabs. I was really disappointed there was no contrast in my last kit between the cabs and floor.

I have red oak floors with natural cherry cabinets. The cabinets will darken over time. I'm going for a dark countertop to give some contrast.

We are also having a dilemma with our floor and cabinets. We have natural red oak floors that have not yet been installed-- still time to change the flooring! We are getting omega/dynasty cabs and are having a hard time with wood choice/stain.
DH loves the red birch with autumn stain, but I worry it is too much wood being similar(altho I love wood and don't want a painted cab). Our kitchen has 2 windows but northern exposure so I don't want it too dark. We had looked at cherry and maple but I did not find a maple stain I liked. Does anyone have natural maple with red oak? Like catamount90 we are also planning a dark counter for contrast.

As I mentioned above, I have stained maple with red oak floors. The stain is Autumn (warm, medium tone).

thanks afr66, I saw your pic and it gives a great visual. Love your granite too. I am hoping for another visual with a natural or light stain in maple. Tried some of the pics in the fkb but haven't found the right combo yet.

I have same problem -- red oak floors, getting oak cabs (Ikea's Tidaholm). Like the idea, actually, of the cabs blending in (we have an open plan). Thanks to all for the pics!

We have red oak floors with a lot of beautiful graining in it. Our island and some cabinets are maple and stained espresso, our other cabinets are white painted mdf. I love the contrast as our maple cabinets show just a subtle grain, while the floors are much more heavily grained. It doesn't feel like too much wood at all.
