Cabinet maker in Northern Virginia

I recently learned from this forum that cabinet makers are often the same price or cheaper than Kraftmaid, etc from HD/Lowes, which is shocking but cool. I searched and haven't found anyone mentioning people they've worked with and recommend in NoVa/DC/MD, but if anyone could pass on some names, I'm looking for one in the near term.

We are in Leesburg and are working with Kitchen Intuition in Warrenton. It's a bit of a hike, but Andrea Rexrode is the owner/designer and is fantastic! I went out to her office once and haven't had to go back again (she's so creative and works well via email if you don't want to go out their too often). I should also mention that I worked with another kitchen designer for about 6 months and was near tears. My builder recommended I contact Andrea and within 2 weeks we were done with the house. She's fantastic (and, we have the same name, so I like her even more!) ha!

I'm recommending her bc she actually works with custom cabinet makers and carries a few brands. She's been able to do our entire house for a very reasonable price using a variety of them (high end kitchen with some custom items, but maybe less expensive items for mudroom, laundry, etc).

She's definitely worth a call - 540-347-3871 (and, I'm glad to send you what she did for us as well)

HomeCraft Cabinetry in Forestville, MD I'm in Virginia, and they've done kitchens all over our neighborhood. Our contractor usually used another custom company out of the area, and even he was blown away by the quality of our cabinets. Plus the owners could not be nicer, more helpful, or more responsible. Sherri--we used Flintstone on Southlawn off Gude.....my contractor works with them and they also have an A rating on Angie's List. I'm no granite installation expert, but as far as I can tell, it looks fine. We got estimates from a few different places and they were in the middle. Ask for Kenny Fonseca..he was easy to work with and responsive to emails, calls, etc. I would stay away from Stone Surfaces on Crabbs Branch in Rockville...I went in there one day and told them I was working with someone at Marble Systems and they were sending information. I called and emailed the lady there several times and she never got back to me. We ended up getting our granite at Avanti instead of Marble Systems anyway. Good luck!

I totally expect to pay something that turns a profit for the contractor, (why would they take the job otherwise?) but I'd rather try to find someone who would work in my area rather than paying a premium JUST because I'm not in their normal service range (and I respect that a contractor prefers to stay within a specific range--that's their choice). Has anyone in the Reston/Herndon/Sterling area used a contractor to install an Ikea kitchen? Or have you found one you liked who took care of more complicated issues like putting up drywall or plumbing and electrical while you did the Ikea install yourself? I'll be in this townhouse for awhile, so I'm more worried about quality work than price.

Have you asked at your local IKEA? They should have a list of installers. Yes, I know they're meant to be done DIY (Do It Yourself), but I think they also maintain a list of installers. One note, if you cannot do the assembly and installation yourself, it may end up costing you just as much, if not more, as other cabinets. IKEA is has limited options for sinks, corner cabinets, cabinet sizes, etc., so if you are planning to have the work done by someone else, I would look into other cabinet options as well.
