There are a plethora of granite distributors/fabricators in NO.Va., especially in the Dulles/Chantilly area around Walney Road and Rte 28. We are using American Granite & Marble and they work with many distributors in the area and can find what you are looking for. Their prices are very reasonable.

I can't help with fabricators in NoVa, but for stone yards check out Marble Systems in Fairfax....it is huge with 100's of granite choices...they also have a nice tile selection. I'm sure they could recommend a fabricator if you found a stone you like there. We did not get our granite from them because we found "the one" at Avanti in Frederick, which also has a pretty big selection. We live in Mont Co. and used a fabricator in Rockville.

Marva was great, so is Avanti. I also went to MSI which is near Marva, so it is easy to do both. Before I opted for my laminate, I looked at leathered black pearl, black cambria, and impala. My favorite was black cambria which I would have gone with. It was a little more than the black pearl, but not much. Definitely at the mid-low price range

Also, we would have used A&S granite in Alexandria (S. Pickett street). They work with most the major yards.

Joanie- Can I ask which fabricator in Rockville you used and were you happy with them? I'm in Silver Spring.

Sherri--we used Flintstone on Southlawn off Gude.....my contractor works with them and they also have an A rating on Angie's List. I'm no granite installation expert, but as far as I can tell, it looks fine. We got estimates from a few different places and they were in the middle. Ask for Kenny Fonseca..he was easy to work with and responsive to emails, calls, etc. I would stay away from Stone Surfaces on Crabbs Branch in Rockville...I went in there one day and told them I was working with someone at Marble Systems and they were sending information. I called and emailed the lady there several times and she never got back to me. We ended up getting our granite at Avanti instead of Marble Systems anyway. Good luck!

Hi all, thank you for your responses...I've seen tons of slabs and gone to a number of the big places (Marble Systems, DalTile, Eurostone)..just not finding exactly what I want..er..strike that..can afford (with hubby compromise and staying away from polished as best as I can...sighnig for Virginia Mist along the way). Anyway..What I really want to see is some leathered, black---- counter tops in place. Does anyone have one? Please?!??!

Mine is leathered, but not black or dark. Please excuse the walls...the tile hasn't been installed yet.

Ours have only been in for two weeks, but the maintenance is great. No fingerprints or water spots and because of all the variation in ours, it doesn't show crumbs or anything!

Namarie - I really like your granite. Did you find it in the yard already leathered, or was it an after purchase process? I can't seem to find any leathered, honed, or antiqued slabs that aren't black.

Dilly, both actually. We needed two slabs. The two leathered slabs looked completely different from each other. But one of the polished slabs looked like the leathered slab we liked. So we bought one of each and had the polished slab leathered to match the other. Our stone yard seemed to have a leathered option in almost every color.

I picked my granite (polished) from a leather granite sample I saw at my fabricator. Good news, it was black too!
You can see it possible, if still there at International Marble, Granite and Tile in Arlington Va. I dealt with Ali and I was very satisfied with my purchase. he recommended my kitchen granite as well, the Cosmos Gold or Golden cosmos. He has a leathered piece there.

Also at Luckstone in Sterling they have a gorgeous counter of honed virginia mist. BEA-TI-FUL!

Are you saying that your fabricator was able to put a leathered finish on your slab? I wasn't aware fabricators could do that. I live in Northern Va, will you please share the name of your fabricator?!
