A dumb faucet question - Chrome faucet with stainless sink?
Comments (9)Here's another vote for chrome. I have it as a finish on my faucet at our lakehouse where we have soapstone countertops and sink. I think it looks timeless and don't have any problem with upkeep. I have had "chrome look" fixtures in my bathrooms which were hard plastic with a silver finish and they were a nightmare to keep nice looking. They were always spotty and the finish rubbed off if you tried to clean any grime off them. If it's real chrome you shouldn't have problems. I have a stainless sink in my kitchen here at home and went with a stainless faucet (installed about 7 yrs. ago, before I knew of this forum.) Wish I'd gone w/ chrome here, too, as the 2 stainless finishes are different in hue, and it has always bugged me....See MoreStainless appliances/sink. Can I do a chrome faucet?
Comments (10)I am because I thought I would get tired of the "all stainless steel" look over time and the chrome is more versatile. I went through way too much angst about it, too. I have brushed nickel nobs, I believe, because they were one of only two "free" options my kitchen installer gave me, but I will probably change those in time. If I get tired of the stainless or brushed finishes it would be a lot more expensive to change if I had to replace everything around the sink, esp the main faucet and instant hot faucet. I plan to leave ss appliances and sink, and chrome fixtures, and switch the nobs, pulls and lights between shiny and matte finishes as the mood takes me! I had a ss sink and chrome fixtures for years. It is only recently that anyone has started to question if that is "OK" or not. Price was not a consideration for me, becuase my faucet was affordable either way, but the chrome does tend to cost a little less, also. Comments (8)For me it depends if I'm going for a solid/monomaterialist look, or if I want the interest (or chaos depending on your preference) of varied different materials. My last kitchen was black appliances with deep ORB (looked black) hardware. My sink and faucet were SS. Lights were a patina brown with parchment glass. I don't know if I consciously tried to match these elements to the other items they were nearest, or if it was coincidence, but now that I think about it - ORB/blackened hardware was probably inspired by the appliances. Ee originally had the house built with cream porcelain, thinking we'd have almond appliances, but chose black at the last minute and forgot to change the hardware... it looked horrible until we changed to the blackened ones. The brown/parchment lights were over 1) the island (Earthen Terra Formica) and 2) the table & windows (table is a deep coffee color, windows were dressed with parchment voile sheers and loden panels, tied back with help straps I made). The faucet was selected because I wanted it the same as the sink. I am building a new house now, and will have ORB or patina(ed) iron hardware. So far my lighting choices (struggling to pick) all have metal that's in the brown family. Sink will either be SS or Silgranit in Biscuit (learning toward this). Appliances will be SS. I will probably do the faucet in brushed SS, but I'm not sure on this one. Haven't thought much about it yet. To me, SS appliances read like a neutral. I just don't see them for very long when I go into a kitchen, unlike white, almond, black or even the metal-finish ones like the Jenn-Air ORB or whoever's blackened steel. So for rules, I'm not sure there are any. Pay attention to these elements in photos, friends' kitchens, etc. and the only rule seems to be "don't do everything the exact same". Must people have a hodge podge of metal & appliance finishes....See MoreBlack/Bronze faucet with stainless steel sink?
Comments (2)It's more important to choose a faucet that goes with the look and feel of the whole kitchen. I don't a see stainless sink (and, my fav. type of sink) as a focal point or something that needs to be matched. Your eyes will be drawn to other kitchen "jewelry." And, yes, all these decisions are tough...there are so many of them. Sorry about your other problems....See Morebigjim24
