White Flies - can't get rid of them!
Comments (6)Washing and insecticide soap is about the only natural way to do it aside from sticky traps (which are better for monitoring and poor for eradicating white fly) and vacuuming (which can be hard because they tend to fly away at any plant disturbance). Check for eggs (small, yellow cones) and larval nymphs (flat white/clear scale looking things) which you can remove before they become flies. The problem with controlling white fly with any means is they're one of the most spazz'd out pests around...you could touch the bottom of a plant and white flies that are on top of the plant opposite of where you touch will scatter. It's hard to spray them when they scatter at the first disturbance to the plant. Also, if you're going to use Malathion for indoor plants, you might want to apply it outside and leave outside for a few hours (or more) before bringing the plants back inside....See MoreCant get rid of white flies on plumies
Comments (1)Well glad that you brought them inside and they haven't froze. Try nehm oil spray. That will get rid of them. Some people also use Murphys Oil Soap and water in a spray bottle. 1 tbs in a gallon of water. Start out a little weaker and try on one plant to see if it will be ok. Gradually increase the MOS. You will need to spray 3-4 times and get under the leaves. Mickey...See MoreNeed help getting rid of white flies
Comments (1)Hi You can use a variety of methods. Spray the plants with a solution of 'Farina' (potato starch). 1 tablespoon to a couple of pints of water and shaken vigorously. Spray this on the undersides of the leaves (where the flies hide) and leave overnight. This MUST be well rinsed off in the morning with clear water. If you don't rinse them the plants will not be able to transpire and you will cause more harm than good. Any sprayer used MUST also be rinsed straight away or the pipes and nozzle get clogged up. As with any spraying carried out, a 'one off' attack will not cure the proble. The whitefly (or wwhatever pest) has different stages of their life cycle happening at the same time and the effects on one stage may not be detrimental to the other stages, When I had any whitefly I sprayed on a four day cycle until they had gone. Hatd work I know, but no more whitefly. I use a chemical which is available here in the UK called "Provado Ultmate Bug Killer", this contains 'Imidacloprid' which may be available to you under a different name? This is systemic and the manufacturers claim that it works for up to 8 weeks. I use it more frequently than that and I haven't seen any aphids, thrips or whitefly this growing season. Sticky traps can also be used but these are less effective in the open garden than when used in a greenhouse situation. I am sure that many on the forum will have other suggestions too. Hope this helps Tight.......See MoreHow to Get Rid of Fruit Flies Indoors
Comments (14)A couple things you could try. Mosquito dunk bits contains BT bacteria which besides mosquito larvae will kill fungus gnat larvae too. Also if you water with 1 tbsp per gallon of hydrogen peroxide (it won't hurt the plant, may actually give it more oxygen) that will kill the larvae too. use either for a few weeks and that should work....See MoreShades_of_idaho
