I wanted chairs at my table that would invite one to stay and linger, or use the kitchen table to sit at while on the laptop. When we reno'd the kitchen and family room we took down 1/2 walls between the two and made one big space. The table is between the areas, so I wanted the table to function as a kitchen table but also as a table in the family room. Does that make sense?

I found sloping armed chairs from Overstock. They are very comfortable and are easily cleaned. They are made by Safavieh.

We just moved to a new house and have bought many new items...one being a new dinette set. We wanted something with arms and rollers were a plus. Though we only found one, it was PERFECT! The chairs have the arms, rollers and padded seats and back. My kids made fun of them with the rollers that are a bit out of vogue but guess where they continually go sit (even when they could sit in the great room a few steps away and in full view). I know with the new dinette set, everyone sits at this dinette much more then at our old house even though it's basically the same layout of the area.

A dear friend recently bought a vintage dining set from a listing on our local Craigs List -- an old maple set from Ethan Allen. It has wonderful high-back chairs with those "bird-cage" (not Windsor) backs. Very, very comfy!

So a vintage set from your local Craigs List may do the trick!

I have a modern small loveseat on one side of my table. It is the favorite spot.

I used to love reading Dominique Brownings notes in Home and Garden. One that always stuck in my mind was her essay on dragging a couch in to her kitchen and how it became the favorite spot in the house.

Makes me want to find another one for mine just thinking about it. :) Hmmmmmmm.
