mural as a backsplash behind the stove

We saw some beautiful hand-painted tiles, grease and stain resistant, that can be used as a backsplash. Most of the photos I have seen with them are in kitchens with range hoods that are high above the cooktop. I will have 22 inches because we are installing an above the stove microwave with vent. The stove is going to be the Electrolux built-in model so no inches are lost there.

Has anyone seen anything like this done? I would love to see some pictures to assure myself that this is a good idea. So far we are very excited about doing it.

There are a few people here who have that. Smarge is one. Do a search for hers. I have an accent behind stove--but not mural. Sounds lovely.

Thanks so much. Smarge's murals are amazing. Unfortunately, mine won't be anything like that. Our tiles are 4 inch square tumbled marble. The mural will be 6 tiles wide and 4 tiles high (totaling 24 by 16 inches).
If any others come to mind, please let me know.

Betsy I have a few recommendations for you depending on what you are looking for specifically. If you want something really unique and are OK w/ it on glass, then absolutely 100 percent I would recommend Designer Glass Mosaics. They are WONDERFUL, true artists and the work they do is absolutely exquisite. They did a mural for us in our upstairs guest bathroom: If you don't want glass, we used Stone Impressions for our kitchen mural. We custom-designed our mural using graphics they sent to us, although I believe you can send in any high quality images and they also have a designer program to help: Our kitchen mural: Lastly, if you want an inexpensive option of just having photos printed on tile, we used ImageSnap for the tiles for our dog shower. This is almost exactly like my old kitchen... too funny. But this is sort of the look we would have, except we would have no 6 inch base of the counter top material around the edge, just our back splash. My concern is the tumbled marble tiles may be too porous for use behind the stove, and if they stain, then it's a real pain to clean. Quarts on the other hand would be very easy and would act as a sort of "feature" behind the stove. Keep in mind also that I do not have a hood, just an OTR microwave with ventilation.

I went with the "less is more" thought process. Just did arabesques all around. But, before we ended up with the arabesques I had considered a subway shaped tile but just change the pattern behind the range, for example--herringbone that was framed in a simple 1/2 round tile. Sorry, no pics---down the shore right now and typing on my iPhone.

We had a mural over our kitchen sink at the last house and we have one over our stove here. I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for or not, but here is our current one:

The idea is very close. How pretty yours is. Mine will be painted on the same tiles as the rest of the white backsplash and it will have an inch and a half wide pencil tile as a border.
Do you mind telling me how large the mural is and how much space you had above the range to work with? That would help me a lot visualizing it. My entire height is 22 inches and I will have only one and a half inches on the top and sides.
Do you have any problems with grease splatters? Do you seal it annually? Thanks so much for your help.
