You'll probably get a better response to this over on the discussions side. It gets more traffic. I'm afraid I can't help you, I used a custom cabmaker in Penn Yan, NY. If you're close to Penn Yan, though (like just south of the border), it was Ray Hoover at Whispering Pines Woodcraft. He was wonderful.

There are a lot of factors that go into pricing that may be pushing the cost higher than anticipated. For instance, base cabinets with 3-4 drawers are typically more expensive than a standard base cabinet with 1 drawer over 2 doors. Extra details such as corbels, columns, interior rollouts, cutlery dividers, specialty hardware, etc. will all have a direct effect on the price. I would suggest getting a few quotes to compare prices. You may be able to afford a higher quality custom cabinet, depending on the size and configuration of your kitchen!

I would NEVER recommend using reform cabinets. I am a designer and ordered these for a client. After 17 weeks (the promised lead time was 14-16 weeks) we got the cabinets. Had the order come in accurate it wouldn't be a big deal that it was 1 week late. Unfortunately, they didn't come in even close to accurate and we have had to go back and forth multiple times to get the additional pieces that were either missing or incorrectly sized. It has now been 6 months since we placed the order and still don't have all of the missing or incorrect pieces. The customer service rep has told us multiple times that remaining pieces will be "completed next week" 3 times now and they have failed to meet the deadline twice. If they actually ship next week as told, we will have spent hours on phone calls and waited over 6 months to get the kitchen to be delivered accurately and completely.

I purchased cabinets from Signature Custom Cabinets in Ephrata, PA. If this is the same company I would say my experience was exceptional. I worked with a designer who did all the plans and specs in 2018. Once order was placed we were given a delivery date and they came as planned (note I live less than 45 miles from Ephrata). The quality is very good. I have both painted and stained cabinets. Painted cabinets are not showing any cracks which is something I have seen with some other brands. I wipe them down with mild soap and water. As an FYI everyone thing is soft close, under sides finished to match paint or stain. I have one cabinet with glass doors that is stained but finished the inside with the paint color. Nice thing about the signature company they have a good selection of wood types to select from. As for cost they were more than some semi custom cabinets but by using custom cabinets we were able to maximum the space to achieve the necessary storage. Note before doing the kitchen I used them for a bathroom with painted cabinets. They are also holding up well.
