Urgent help needed with grab bar placements
Comments (20)Putting in the blocking is a great way to plan for the future. The bars are a good idea at any age, but I understand not wanting to put all of them in till needed. One at the entry would probably suffice if you are not elderly or handicapped. I was very impressed with that You Tube Video on the Secure Mount. I went home yesterday to find they had already sprayed the bathroom walls. I'm not sure if the contractor's stud finder will be able to locate through the marble. If not, we'll just go with the Secure Mount. I returned the 9 inch curved bars, and am ordering the 24 and 18 inch bars after I see the marble install tonight. I wanted 36 inches for the long wall, but DH wants them shorter. My contractor said the marble has two corner shelves and one recessed soap/shampoo holder. I imagine that is rather long, so I'm hoping they didn't place that where it will interfere with the longer bar placed at an angle....See MoreNeed help urgently--closet into small study area -- layout ?
Comments (16)I am going to dissent for 3 reasons, though I am not sure I am seeing everything accurately.... If the current wall lines up with the rest of the wall to the right of the hall (can't tell with DH's feet there), I might leave it as is. Depends on the size and shape of the main room and whether that 'bump in' would look funny in that room. Two, consider the doorways and hallway headers. The opening to the room to the left (the one with the HWF) and to the hall will be affected by the 'bump in'. Right now the openings are framed, giving you options for casing or paint color changes room to room. Think about that before you axe the defined transitions. Three, since the chair will move forward when the wall does, the "gained" space will be behind behind you when you sit at the desk chair. You could always put storage on that back wall - but the space is then the same size as it was, and that storage is visible from the main room. Careful design will affect how much storage and function you can squeeze out of the desk area as is. I think there is enough there to work with. Instead of moving the wall, I would concentrate on ceiling to desktop storage. Open or closed. that could hold a ton and would be visible only from the desk chair. A return of 1-2 feet would allow a 3 sided recess above the desk for 'mondo storage' and still leave excellent sight line from the desk chair to and from the larger room. Opposite the desk, make the area visible from the main room attractive and simple: a framed print with a wall mounted sliver of a credenza below. I really like designs that give a work area 'mondo storage' and sight lines that manage to conceal that storage but not the worker. You have that option here. Transoms would be great, but only if they look good from the main room....See MoreKitchen table size- answers needed tonight please!
Comments (6)That's going to look great! Is there any way to simulate 80" long? It looks like you might be able to put a leaf in your current table? Or if no leaf at least pull it apart to 80"? Or, if not that, move your current table down so it anchors one end of the 80" and find a big piece of cardboard to add to the other end? I agree your current table looks too small, but 80" is 1/3 larger and looks like it might overwhelm the sofa. I'm so visual that for me it would help to somehow get a better feel for the 80". Even if you move the table down to where one end of the 80" would go and hold the tape measure up to the other side. The width doesn't seem like a big change so not a big deal there. I would want the table to go to the end of the arms of the sofa, but maybe not quite so far past them. ? I'd also see how that measures up against the windows behind the table. Might help with the decision. Good luck!...See MoreNeed Urgent Help - Window Treatment solution for ceiling high windows
Comments (12)I would also look into different ceiling installation options because 118" will need at least a couple of middle supports if you installed on the sides.... 96" is a very manageable ht to diy! I have regular sized sliders (that are recessed about the same amount as yours except with a lot of molding around them) that I hung a tension like curtain rod on except it is mounted on both sides... I hung open weave linen sheers on them and almost always keep them pulled to cover just one half... anyway, I couldn't have used the center supports with this rod even if I wanted to because I have the rod hung tight near the top like you need to do-- in my case it works because I only have sheers hanging, so less wt and i don't close them too often, so very little tugging on the rod......See Moreontariomom
