How old are the girls, and what colors do THEY like?

Love the yellow furniture - the possibilities are endless, but I think unless they are very small, they need to have direct input into the room color or colors. It is THEIR space, after all!

I love the black and white. The grey is nice (my grade school colors were grey and yellow), but grey is kind of ubiquitous these days. A rich blue, either cornflower or navy or periwinkle, or a rusty red (evoking a provencal color scheme).

I grew up in a room with that color furniture. Mine had daises painted around the drawer knobs. I had green carpet and white walls. I made myself this green and white daisy afghan that was all the rage for my bed spread. That was 40 years ago, paint palette's have changed since then. (Then again it was a military base housing and all the walls were always white.)

I vote either lavender or white. I think I would see what bedding was out there. When we repainted my DD room before leaving for college we did it in a deep yellow to match one of the stripes on her comforter. She wound up taking this comfortor back with her! I then had to find comfortors to match the yellow. We bought the Martha Stewart which has the yellow gray and lavender stripe.
The bedding can be a good jumping off point as not everything is available in the color waves that you might want.

If your daughter is old enough to be included, I concur it would be great if she could help pick the colors for her room. I found a bunch of fabrics that offer a variety of color combinations. All of them have the yellow furniture color in them and would work in the room. The swatches were only chosen for the colors not the design so some of the patterns may be kind of ucky but as you can see, combination wise, you can't really go wrong, it's just a matter of what catches your eye.

I would use a very pale aqua, there are some gorgeous ones out there. The furniture is wonderful. Of course any cream color would look good too but little girls love pastels.

My first thought was the palest of yellows almost a bone color but just a little more lemmon-y. It would be so soft and sophisticated. Bolder choices would be great for now but I love the softer ones for going forward as they grow up. The room and furniture are just yummy!!! Love the color and style.

I should have mentioned this room will be shared between my almost 5 yr old and my 3 yr old. My 5 yr old has expressed her love for "purple". Her big sisters bedroom is lavender and she has said before how she wishes her bedroom was "purple".. even though she asked for pink when we first moved in just a year ago!! Which she got! But I have to switch the bedrooms around anyway because we have a new addition to the family.. another girl! So 5 girls, 1 boy, and he has the bigger bedroom, it would have worked out if we had another boy but I took my chances and now I need to switch things up!

Also.. something to consider.. the room I am working with has oak trim, doors, and window frames. I'd rather not paint it because to do it right is a bit more work then I can take on right now. I know because I painted my oldest daughters trim and her room is much smaller. It's a big job!

It is what it is. Hopefully it will still look pretty and my girls will love it.

If it helps I can share a picture of the room. As I already mentioned, it's my 6 yr old boys bedroom right now. The walls are painted a cream color (Behr Raffia Cream) with one dark brown wall (Behr Butternut Wood).

I love the furniture color!

I was going to suggest a lavender color or light aqua like this:

with pops of colors like that in the lamp shade & crib skirt.
Gray with a lavender tinge could be nice, too.

I like the aqua suggestion because you can use bold purple accents with it and it would look great and not so "typical".

If not aqua, try a perky light green. I have Wales Green by BM at 75% on a few walls and think that could make a nice backdrop to the bolder yellow. It has a lot of yellow tones, but in a light green. The purple accents would work with WG as well.

If you can go with bright white trim, then go bold with a deep purple for the walls. We have BM's Purple Rain on 2 walls and it has a luxurious velvet look to it. It is striking paired with white (wts and trim). That would give your daughter her purple without looking as juvenile so it may hold up longer.

I don't see lavender paired with the strong yellow as much, despite lavender being one of my fave colors.

I think yellow, green, and crisp white make a lovely combination.

I talked to dd this morning and showed her some pictures and she's really wanting "purple". I just have to decide on what shade. These are the colors in my oldest dd's room..

The darker shade is Behr Fading Sunset (I love this color) and the lighter shade is Behr Hosta Flower. If either of those would work it would be nice.. that's one less can of paint to keep around for touch-ups!

And I *think* I've talked myself into painting the trim! The consensus seems to be white?

So.. another question..

To paint the trim properly without worrying about chipping and peeling I will first need to sand? then prime? then should I use a brush or spray?

Also, I am looking for opinions on reupholstering the head boards.

One more thing, sorry if I'm overwhelming anyone! But I am wondering if I should paint some of the girls existing furniture to incorprate in their new room..

I will probably see how the 'new' bedroom set will fit into the room and see what space is left but I know I'll be keeping their rocking horse! Should I paint it white?
