Drop-In Cooktop in Granite Installation Question

It was a toss-up about whether to post this here or in Appliances. . . .

We have a 30" drawer cabinet flanked on both sides with other cabinetry, and a granite countertop over everything. The opening was cut in the granite centered over the 30" cabinet for a drop-in gas cooktop. The sides of the granite cut-out are flush with the sides of the cabinet such that when the cook-top is dropped in, there is no room (or countertop) for the angle brackets on each side that are supposed to be screwed up against the countertop to hold the cooktop down. If the cabinet was an inch wider on each side, there would be sufficient room and granite to use the brackets.

I thought about notching out the top of each side of the cabinet so that the brackets could be fit in, but it gets complicated because there is a wooden "top" on the cabinet to the left which would also have to be cut. The cabinet on the right is a pull-out.

The cooktop is fairly heavy and sits pretty tightly down on the granite, but it is capable of being slid an inch or so in any direction. There may also be just the ever slightest bit of unevenness around the rim that would be remedied-- I think-- if it were clamped down on the side.

Any suggestions?
