Need as much help with wood help and building raised beds ASAP
Comments (8)"My largest bed is 4' x 25' x 14" deep, and is made with rough cut cedar that a friend with a small sawmill operation cut for me. This is the cheapest source that I know of, and you might be able to find a similar deal in your area. I would expect the boards to last at least 15-20 years, and no additional protective coating is necessary. Mine are supported by 4x4 posts cemented 18" deep in the ground, but I tend to really beef things up that are built on the property. Hope this helps. EG " EG, Where does one find such a sawmill? I also forgot to mention the tools I have on hand and my situation. I'm currently unemployed and funds are very tight. The veggie garden is my freedom for healthy foods and saving traveling costs AND I CONTROL IT so I know that there are NO PESTICIDES. Sorry for the caps there. On a ventage over that. I only have a cored circular saw (old, likely dull, spot rust, and can't find it right now), corded Borsh (sp?) hand drill, 12v Mikita cordless drill (both batteries dead, would wiring it to a 12v car battery straight make it work?), cheap hand rotary tool w/~100pc kit, corded jig saw, small hobby belt/disc sander (belt ~1" wide and disc ~5" diameter), large range of socket set heads, large set of hand tools +/-/[]. I have access to Lowes (not far from me), Home Depot (not far from me), and Rona (not far from me)....See Morewhich design? need to decide asap, please help! picture included
Comments (19)Hello everyone, I apologize for a delay in my response. Here is what happened, after getting very mixed votes, I kept going back and forth and back and forth and ended up going with the ones on the right :) I think some of you may have liked the ones on the left because of how they look in the picture but the ones on the right look really nice in life too. After leaving a sample for the tile guy to work with, I rushed to the store to get the other ones and of course got held up by other chores. Just got back and rushed to the PC to see the rest of the feedback I got :)) Thank you so much for your advice!! Here is how it looks so far:...See MoreHelp, Need your opinion ASAP on Granite install
Comments (15)Picture would help: don't pay the balance yet. 1. New Venetian Gold (several crystals) 2. Light granite with garnets (round dots of red/purple)you: large really dark cluster with lots of little spots (could be mica: will be more ruff feeling to the touch and less polished) 3. tearing out granite 'could' effect any other granite touching and/or splash touching 4. Seal~Seal~Seal with a VOC compliant granite sealer: not water based: clean granite with only true granite approved cleaners & polishers: usually commercial brands works very best. 5. I guess you were unaware that you are allowed to see slab before being cut with templates layed out on the slab at cutting time to approve placement. Facts: A characteristic referred to as "pitting" is normally due to the fact that granite is a natural product that has a crystalline structure, sometimes resulting in small spaces between the varying mineral crystals. In some cases, certain tiny crystals may also be removed during the polishing process, causing the pits to become more visible. Various steps are taken during the finishing process to reduce the visibility of these pits, but they cannot be totally avoided in all granite types. Pitting will not become worse with regular use or with the passage of time. Many types of granite have small "fissures" or hairline cracks on the surface of the slab, usually more visible in the larger quartz crystals. These surface fissures should not be confused with structural cracks that permeate the entire slab. Fissures are a natural result of the heating and cooling of the stone during its formation millions of years ago. Fissures will not grow or expand over time. I hope this helps. Comments (18)I find them all a bit busy. About the pain to dust thing: I have similar pulls on my kitchen cabinets, and although I loved them when I bought them, they are a pain to clean -- and in the kitchen, you can imagine that stuff falls into the cracks. I wouldn't do them again. Another thread on this board just yesterday addressed the idea that the iron ballisters are on their way out /on their way towards looking dated. They're not an easy (or inexpensive) change....See Moreck_squared
