Congratulations! I can absolutely empathize with the l-o-n-g search, the long fruitful search, we can now say!

I had a really thoughtful fabricator who was looking to match movement where we had to seam (now in all fairness, on our countertop we only have one seam, but in our slab backsplash we have five seams). I'd thought about that, but they'd really thought about it and they had terrific suggestions and wanted to spend a long time making sure everything "made sense" (re: the movement).

So that's my only "tip" -- not too helpful, I now. But be sure to be there when they apply the template to your slabs, and be sure to take as long as you feel necessary to get the seams you want.

Beautiful granite, but it will be hard to match at the seams, assuming you have seams.

rmkitchen is so right. Please be there when they apply the templates to your slab(s). And think about how you want the movement. What shape kitchen do you have? Is it U-shaped? Galley with parallel counters? Is there an island in the middle?

That is very special stuff. I immediately made me think of the marbles in the Pantheon, and on the facade of St. Marks in Venice. I hope you will get to enjoy it for as many years as you choose.

That is indeed very nice. I love the swirly granites. Seam matching can be tricky. In our case I just didn't pay it very much attention because I had other concerns that were more important. (Our granite has what we see as sea creatures in it and I wanted to preserve them as much as possible.) SO, you can see the seams but as there is so much movement it doesn't really stick out, the seams are not in hugely conspicuous places and frankly, I just don't really care all that much.

I too have lots of movement in my granite. After they template, go to the yard and look at the template on the granite. I (with the stone person) moved the template around until we had it right. I knew the seams wouldn't be perfect. (I pretty much used up three slabs) I also knew that I was going to do my backsplash in the same granite as I wanted to SEE it when I was in the kitchen. So they "booked" the granite so the seams from the backsplash flowed onto the counter.

This reminds me: when I told my MIL that I wanted a granite with movement like you were "spreading sand" all over the granite, she said "Oh, that's cheaper". Like it is crap. Mind you, she has blue pearl. BP is beautiful (I have it on my BBQ island), but it isn't some exotic rare stone! Just thought I'd share her kind words! UGH.

Meg711 - the kichen has 3 places where the granite will lay, an L-shape run of cabinets, cooktop, and sink; a large (9') island; and a wetbar area. If I can fix my scanner, I'll try to post the layout.

boysrus2 - the granite is named Juparana Indian Gold - be warned, however, that the granite yard I went to had two lots of the same-named stone - the other lot looked nothing like this and was very harsh and quite orange!

pbrisjar - you made me smile with you comment about frankly not really caring all that much. You sound just like a dear friend of mine. I, too, have favorite parts of the slab that I will focus on and hopefully that what will draw my eye.

mustbenuts - the cabinets will be delivered on the 19th and wouldn't you know it our carpenter's on vacation that week!!!! That just the way things are going right now - oh well, good things come to those who wait, right?

remodelqueen - ouch! If this makes you feel any better, when my grandmother (my Dad's mother) looked at my Mom's engagement ring she asked "kind of dinky, ain't it?" Really - this is a true story. My poor mother, she thought her ring was the most beautiful in the world (and is still wearing it happily, along with her $10 wedding band, 39 years later). I don't remember my grandmother having a mean bone in her body (she lived until I was 27), so I chalk it up to something along the lines of "did I really just say that out loud?"

beautiful granite. our granite also had a lot of movement and i was highly anxious about seam placement. they did one seam at the sink and did a great job of matching the movement. make sure you are there for templating and placing the template on the slabs to help figure it all out.

I love your granite! It reminds me of a bottle of sand art, and I hope you don't take that as a lousy, did I say that outloud comment. It is meant in a very nice way (I happen to like sand art or anything with color and movement). Hope you share lots of pictures after the install.

We have juprana columbo gold granite and love it still. Your slab has great depth, nice choice!!! Cant wait to see the finished product. Meg 711 gives great advice about templating just right. We only have one seam in our kitchen which some here may say is very obvious but doesnt' bother me at all, lol.

I am so happy you found what you love. I too am looking for granite, but I am so afraid to choose it with all this radon talk. I think it is so beautiful, how can it be dangerous. How did you overcome the fuss about the radon gas in the granite.

Your granite is sooo gorgeous. I love all that movement and such pretty colors. I'm also planning on holding out until I find the right slab. (soapstone, not granite, but still) DH thinks I'm nuts, but I told him I can live with plywood countertops until I find the right stone. There just isn't that much to look at around here so I may have to trust the pictures from M. Tex, but I hate the idea of choosing one I haven't seen and touched.

Hi Susan, our cabinets are hickory in a spice finish from American Woodmark at Home Depot. We went with hickory for it's hardness and have not been disapointed. THe color was exactly what i was after.
