Bianco Romano is my favorite granite. I cannot tell you how much I love it. I was just at our Country Club for a dinner this evening and they had it in the ladies room and I didn't want to come out. Their's had a yellow cast to it but it was still definitely BR, maybe it was the soft ivory sunset wallpaper reflecting on it. I am not sure about those particular mosaics with BR. The Bianco Romano is elegantly lovely without anything added. If I did add something I might be tempted to do something more glass mother of pearl only darker something like that. Both of the elements you chose are beautiful on their own ~just not sure if I can give a thumbs up for them together.

There have been other threads re gorgeous granite paired with (for lack of a better descriptor) busy backsplash tiles. IMHO, it just doesn't work. I think folks are getting away from the mosaic/tumbled travertine look and going for a more sophisticated backsplash that allows the granite to be the focal point. That is goregous granite and I agree with others - how about glass tiles. Or I saw this recently, a backsplash out of large sheets of plate glass that had been painted on the back. I know it sounds kind of funky, but it was elegant. Another option that some (maybe aliris???) like is to also use the granite as a backsplash.

If the mosaic was a single color, that could work... I don't think the example shown is the best complement to the granite.

These two seem to represent different styles. The mosiacs appear to be much more rustic, at least to me. Maybe you could find a single tile that has a few of those colors, but is a little more formal looking. I love the Sumi-e. Maybe you could do a row of that with some Mother of Pearl tile.

I never ever do this but here goes....I don't know how well the granite will look with honey oak cabinets. I am saying this based on my experience of trying to force natural maple cabs and Kashmire White granite together. It just didn't work.

The honey oak cabinets and the backsplash would probably work well together, but the cab's and the granite? I just don't know. Can you post a picture of the cab's with the granite and flooring?

Lia: Just as a comparison, here's our backsplash with Bianco Romano. Let me warn you about Bianco Romano. Every slab is VERY very different. Some will have more black contrasts, some yellow, some lots of pinkish burgandy, some more white, some more gray/beige. Mine looks much more bluish beige in my kitchen than it did at the granite place. And the sample I had had large black veins throughout. I initially looked at a similar backsplash for our kitchen, and decided it was just too busy for me. I even question my choice of the black marble/glass accent since the slab looks so different in my kitchen. I think I would have liked plain subway better.

All I needed to hear was the "sophisticated cocktail dress with clogs"... I would NEVER :) And thank you Joyce for the pics - looks great with that backsplash.

and went with the Blanco Leblon

I have a few days to change my order, so if anyone thinks this will be awful - feel free to chime in. I think I'll be happy with my decision, though. Can't wait to see the finished product!

I think you are definitely in the ballpark now. Just one question, have you held up the backspash to your actual slab? Slabs can very quite a bit, which is why I think most people like to put in the counter first (and do paint, etc) and then try out the backsplash.

I think the style of the backsplash is good, but the colors on my monitor seem to go better with the BR granite, than the BL which is more green, than pink/taupe.

Yes, senator - we'll actually be going to handpick the granite slab ourselves. We will definitely take the backsplash along, and won't be finalizing/installing anything until the granite is in. I agree with your thoughts on the difference in color in these images - however, the samples we looked at were actually quite similar. The BL was just much less expensive :)

Lia 7808 did you finish your kitchen? I would love to see a picture. We just spent the day looking at backsplashes to go with our Bianca Romano which looks remarkably like the first picture you posted. We have oak cabinets as well. I love the granite but it does seem "too formal" for the tiles we gravitated towards. Originally I wanted recycled glass tiles but the glass tiles we looked at just didn't look right. We have a small kitchen, north exposure and need something light but I also want a little color. Suggestions? Thanks!

If you are still looking for some direction, perhaps this might work for you? A field of your stone with a single narrow liner of Sonoma Tilemakers "Tantrum - Carved Designs" series (either Groovin or Clarity) in either Canyon Red, Earth or Burnt Amber (whichever best compliments your stone and cabinets). Not so busy as a mosaic but still carries a bit of an impact, without taking over.
