Mother Nature Decorated for Christmas

Mother Nature finished her holiday decorating last night, and she did a masterful job. We're leaving in a couple of hours to pick up our daughter up at the airport -- she moved to Orlando earlier in the year and was telling us how much she misses the Wisconsin winter. This should make her happy. Merry Christmas to all --

I have no ability or patience to do such decorating but really love to look at them. I'm sorry you get the headaches Michelle but what a lovely 'recovery' idea. One hint I'll add that I got from a professional baker... roll your cookie dough out on parchement paper or the rimless sheets they used. Cut your cookies out ON this and just pick up the scraps, rather than try and lift cut out cookies ONTO a sheet. Of course they also were uber-efficient in making use of all the space of the rolled cookie dough and did not have many scaps at all. I have a zillion cookie cutters but never make rolled cookies. It figures, doesn't it !?!?!?!! I must need camp again. Maureen

Thanks so much, everyone! I had a lot of fun with it. I made the butterflies out of printed cardstock, and attached them with safety pins. The dress ($5 from Salvation Army) was my big chance to wear a mother-of-the bride dress. :-) I'm wearing a ton of eye makeup, although it isn't all that obvious in the photo. My son told me I looked amazing, so I'm thinking I should wear the flowers in my hair every day. Along with the green and purple eye shadow! Instead of candy, I gave the boys some cookies, including shortbread from Scotland. This was a huge treat when I was a kid, and I found the same brand! I haven't tasted it in years . . . it's like eating a stick of butter. Marilyn_c, I could say the same to you. And I probably have. :-)

deannatoby I'm in central Oklahoma & we are close to the northern limits of their hardiness range. Cross the border from Oklahoma to Kansas and you are really at the limits of their range. Usually they do fine but if conditions are such that an arctic deadly freeze comes after a warm fall with no gradual hardening off period, they can suffer damage. In my whole life I only remember that one time they died all the way to the ground and some died completely. In Kansas, close to the southern border, that happens more often so you can grow one for several years and then, wham, one bad winter can do it in. My sister who lives in Wellington close to the S. border gave up on them as unreliable. Here its one of the most common shrubs around, seems like every yard, park and median has them because they are so drought hardy, do so well in intense heat and have such a long bloom period + the fall color. Its kind of hard to believe they actually die because if you've ever tried to get rid of one, you know how tenaciously the roots persist. I've been trying to get rid of one for 4 years now and I'm still dealing with root suckers. When you cut a large one down you often end up with a whole lawn full of suckers.

I moved from the northeast to CA and I do not miss the snow at all. I hope I never have to deal with it again, unless I choose to go to a ski resort!

Whao..it was 35 here in AL this AM when I got up at 4 AM !! We had 70 yesterday !! No snow ...please..I love pics though . c

Ah, yes...Mother Nature's way of telling us to light the fire, make the hot chocolate, forget the to-do list, and snuggle in (once the travelers are safely home...).

Not the same as snow, but I've escaped to my parents for a few days and their natural decorations are in full bloom, too: Yuletide and Candy Cane Camellias.
