Vent in pass through...answer to fryer problems?

I've been trying to come up with some way for my wonderful husband to use his fryer (he does make wonderful homemade fries) and George Foreman grill, without adding another vent.

Then, I was looking at this article, about a pass through between scullery and kitchen. What if instead of the sink, there was the range on one side (with raised backsplash) and countertop on the other...with the vent/hood above the range? Would this be powerful enough to suck up any grease/fumes from small appliances on the other side of the pass through?

Here's the link to the scullery kitchen article. Thanks for any ideas...and am I the only one who needs more ventilation and counterspace, for these things? :)
