Message Center
Comments (5)I have one that I just love right now! I stuck three pieces of cork board and 1 piece of dry erase board (12" X 12" each found at Staples in packs of 4) onto our pantry door. I have labeled each one with what they are for. In our house it's Calendar, ToDo, Menu Plan/Grocery List, & Msgs. This has worked REALLY well for us. I printed out a year's worth of blank calendar pages from Outlook and then write in the activities (each person in our family has a color and the activities are highlighted with the person doing the activity.). This was relatively inexpensive....See More30' Message Center - Need Ideas/Help
Comments (6)I also gave this type of thing a lot of thought when we remodeled last year. I ended up putting a desk and cabinets in a nook in my mudroom, because I tend to accumulate clutter, which I didn't want in the kitchen. I wonder if instead of a cabinet, you should do all drawers - you can put the kids' papers in drawers more easily than a cabinet. The upper cabinet is a good idea for baskets of pencils and extra office supplies. Maybe you could get a cd player that mounts under the cabinet so it doesn't take up countertop space? Here's a picture of my mudroom desk - sort of the same concept....See MoreShow me your kitchen message / communication center!
Comments (8)"That's where we have our meals at night and the only time we really communicate with each other. :):) :)" NHB, that's just sad! LOL!! We have an office with a desk, etc. and that's where we work and we also have files in there of things we want/need to keep. Computer, etc. is also in that room. Since it's just the two of us and no children's schedules to keep up with, a nice size calendar works for us. I keep one hanging on the inside of the pantry door. I also have a small basket in that area of my kitchen which holds a few pieces of mail, or some important something or other that we might need in the near future. Otherwise it's in the office. tina...See MoreMessage Center Pics
Comments (21)Hi Nansea, glad you like our message center. Our cabinets are made by Cabico and I guess you'd call them a semi custom line. I asked them to stack the wine cubbies horizontally on top of a 30" wide base cabinet only 12" deep. And what you see is the result. I wanted the valence to match two other valences going into the kitchen. They kinda messed up on this detail, but I still like the way it came out. I also wish that they made the ends look more like false doors instead of plain ends. Oh well. I didn't use a KD (or architect) so I guess I was bound to have a mistake or two in the remodel. We use the message center for mail, keys, cell phones, DH's wallet, note pads, DD's camera, etc. One basket holds tape, scissors, pencils, paper clips, elastic bands, etc. The other holds a few tools, the camera charger, tape measure, etc. We don't charge our cell phones there . . . we charge them in an appliance garage. There isn't a message board at the message center (which irks my husband, he's been wanting a message board for years) so we're going to put one in our mud room over the coat hooks. Even still, I find miscellaneous "stuff" left on the counter. Whatever I find (miscell. business cards, notes, coupons, etc.) all gets hidden into a cubby or basket and the culpret has to hunt for whatever "stuff" they left hanging around. That'll teach em....See Moreerikanh
