Almost Finished - White / Marble / Soapstone
Comments (75)Fudgie: The paint color on the cabinets is Ben Moore Ivory White. The paint itself isn't Ben Moore (it's a pre-cat Lacquer that the cabinet maker sprayed on) but we match that color. It is the trim color we use around the house. There was some concern during planning that it would be to yellow - turns out we think it's perfect. sallybeth: We are really enjoying the Sub-zeros. Some people prefer the racks and look of the european fridges (i.e. Miele) but these suit us well. We went with the door and drawer options over the single column as we think it's easier to just open a drawer when you need it - plus you can open the large door with children around and not have them immediately crawl into the fridge (an issue around our house...) The wine cooler had a rattle after it was first installed, I called the "white glove" service group and they came out the next day. While it really only needed a quick spot weld to secure a coolant line that was vibrating, they replaced the entire compressor assembly - pretty impressive. The same service folks are coming out to ensure our ovens and grill / griddle are well calibrated (seems like the ovens are a little lower than the set temp and the grill is a little uneven.) Nit picky stuff, but they haven't raised an eyebrow at my requests. Next day appointments too. Impressive stuff! Crafterbeth: Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking forward to diving into the backyard once the thaw comes! I still owe all of you final (with backsplash) photos. Still looking for a time to get the kitchen clean and empty for some shots. I haven't forgotten!...See MoreSoapstone getting installed today
Comments (9)The epoxy sets up super fast - it may be they want the stone to get to room temp first. Mine sat out in the cold (SD winter)for two weeks and I waited several days and it sure changed in look as it warmed up. I carry a small sample with me, seems most of the places I go ask "what is that" when I tell them I have soapstone counters. I showed one appliance salesman - and he said in surprise "wow, it's rock!. The sales people at the Floor to Ceiling store also didn't know what soapstone was, but at least the lady at the Tile wholesaler didn't bat an eye when I pulled out the sample to match tiles to. I don't think there is a lot of soapstone installed in kitchens in South Dakota!...See MoreNew Soapstone/Marble Counters are in!!!!!
Comments (18)Thanks Yesdear....I love the Brazilian Black, it had just been oiled when I took the pictures. It is really a dark gray and I prefer it unoiled, but I'm not totally sure one way or the other (I like that it looks good both ways). It has hints of green and even a carmel area. I got it at Soapstone Werks. They told me that the stone is almost impossible to get anymore, so I guess we were lucky...I picked it out back in March. Funny thing about the seams...there are a lot, they are well done and don't show as much when it's just been oiled (today they show a bit more). There is one at the center of the sink, one before the angle in the corner by the cooktop, and the two rails of the cooktop are separate pieces also. With all the angle changes in the kitchen a variety with heavy white veining would have looked funny. Re: the baking area. It will have the coffee pot and toaster over there with MW underneath, so there won't be a ton of space. I might use this area as the "bulters pantry" when we have bigger groups over. The real drop zone is being constructed as a niche mudroom off the garage door (next to the laundry room where we most commonly enter the house). Also, there is a free standing hutch next to the Fridge which will have our glasses/dishes, silverware, dishes and kid snacks & probably a junk drawer. I lucked out on the sink, it's in it's original location and I loved it other than the DW used to sit within 3" of the sink edge, putting a bigger cabinet in between really helped that. I love the sink, just wish it had running water & a drain (maybe Monday). I may replace the air gap after inspection, it's just sitting there now...I didn't have good luck with my old soap dispenser (same location) it would get to hot and leak dish soap everywhere. I'm thinking the new windows may help that....See MoreSoapstone template layed out today---look at my Original PA!
