medicine cabinet size and height

For the master bathroom, we're going to do a furniture style vanity 54-57". I want to get the RH cartwright medicine cabinet and my builder needs to know what size so that he can frame the inset portion. Should I get the small or large? There will be sconces on either side. I'm leaning towards the small. Also, typically, how high above the vanity top is the medicine cabinet ?

Single sink or double sinks, and how wide is the sink?

A 54 inch wide vanity is spacious for a single sink. I would go with the large medicine cabinet. It is 28 inches wide, which still leaves plenty of room for the sconces.

Medicine cabinets are hung at eye level. So the height above the counter will vary depending on the size of your cabinet. I would get the bigger one. When I buy cold medicine or asprin on sale, I store the extra bottles in the medicine cabinet. Keeps me organized.

You could always mount the cabinet on the surface. Just make sure that the cabinet is larger than the opening. Or if it is smaller, frame the gap with a wooden frame.

What did you end up with? I know this is an old post, but I was just curious. If had seen this post at the time you posted it, I would of suggested a mirrored medicine cabinet with its own integrated lighting. which can also offer a nightlight with dinner function. So, you will not only have lighting from your main bathroom, but an additional light source. So, the sconces next to or above the cabinet would have been unnecessary.

Sorry- forgot to mention it's a single sink and the sink will be 18" wide.

I'd choose the large too with that size vanity. I used the small Cartwright over a pedestal sink.

I always vote bigger--one can never have too much storage space. Plus we have NO medicine cabinet here, and everything is under the sink, which is a major pain for cosmetics and need-it-now medicine like aspirin, cough syrup.

I would vote on the bigger size. Everyone needs storage and more storage.

That is not really a good idea and is not recommended to store medicines in the bathroom. The heat and steam and light will degrade the products, especially aspirin. Do you have a hallway linen closet or something similar to store the product? Either way, I would not store duplicates of anything in the bathroom - just what is in use.

dilly__dally---My sinks, which have medicine cabinets on either side of them and bathtub are in seperate areas, not one room. My toilet is in a closet. Not everyone has the same set up. I've even seen master bedroom closets in the bathroom.

Plus, asprin bottles are stuffed with cotton to asorb moisture and have a child proof seal, while in a cardboard box. :0)
