Grout Dried too dark
Comments (3)Update: I did another small test area without misting the substrate. The grout dried seriously darker than what was left in the bucket or what it is in the surrounding tile. I also called Custom Building Products, the grout manufacturer and a technical support person reviewed my photos and guesses that there is something in the subsurface (thinset of mudpack under the floor tile), such as old soap scum or body oil, that could be leaching into the grout. However, he is not sure. He also said that grout stains are available, but they are not good for shower floors. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this type of problem?...See MoreGrout color for carrara marble backsplash - Platinum is too dark!
Comments (6)I think the platinum takes the fun out of your particular tile design. I'd go lighter like the white ( or other nice light color for your marble ). Or I'd go darker than the platinum. Was you sample totally dry when you took that picture? It took my samples over a day to really dry down for a realistic reading. Do some more samples. My carrara is more of a tannish color. I used Natural which was sort of concrete color. It had an ever so slight green to it. Other grays were pinkish and did not look good with my tile. My different trials in the picture were Natural & white, total Natural, & last, Natural cut with a little white. I ended up blending Natural with a bit of white in a 3:1 ratio for my final material. I wanted some contrast....See Morebathroom tile grout is too dark after sealing
Comments (2)You might try one of the acids or cleaners that is advertised to remove sealant. What sealant was used? I have the problem of ivory grout that came out white and would like to seal with something that will darken it. I will do a test area first to make sure it is the right result as I wouldn't want it to look like dirt but for mine if it yellowed it up some it would be perfect. Comments (6)It might dry lighter, so I'd wait till it's fully dried, but I had to paint grout once and it's not that difficult, it also acts as a sealer, so don't seal you grout, it will prevent the paint from adhering well. Do a small sample and wait for it to dry, it dries lighter. Another option is to mix white grout paint with water and "white wash" the grout until you get the color you want. Whatever you do, wait till the grout has had time to cure. I always recommend doing a sample board up with you choice of grout before you commit. Grout isn't that expensive and sometimes the coloring samples aren't very accurate. I just hot glue some tile to cardboard and mixed a little water with the grout and it gave me a much better idea, what the finished product would look like....See Morejscout
