Great job! You must be thrilled with the "new" space. I especially love your countertops and they look so expensive. Can you give us some details on where you found them, how they are finished, cost, etc?

Numberjunkie, the counters are from a local company called Endurawood. They are Douglas Fir taken from old industrial buildings. They were finished with Osmo Top Oil. I think they put 3 coats or so on before they brought them over and then put another thin coat on immediately after installing them. I've put a couple coats on since they were installed at the end of May and now I should be good for a long time. They were $2400, which included the template, delivery and installation.

We have a lot of corners in the kitchen and the square footage of the counters is high even though the kitchen is small - the quotes for quartz were around $5K. Wood allowed for a really efficient use of materials. I loved working with Endurawood. The guys who came to template were the guys who built the counters and then came to install them. They were creative problem solvers and total pros.

That's a great update! I love your wood counters and the brightness of your space now. But where is your Jadite??? It would really pop with your white cabinets.

I love how the space changes when you switch from whitish countertops and wood colored cabinets to the opposite (whitish cabinets and wood colored countertops. Color is so powerful. Good job.

What a difference! The counters are fabulous. You're right - those drip pans do make a big difference. They'll be easier to keep clean, too - they won't show the burnt-on stuff (I had drip pans, too, until very recently.) Your new kitchen is charming and very pretty. Good job!

Maybe production house is a regional phrase? I'm not sure. I must have picked it up somewhere, but now I don't know where. What I meant by that is tract housing, with big groups of houses built simultaneously and quickly and those homes all utilizing the same basic inexpensive materials and finishes. For example, in my development of 500 houses/rowhouses, there are maybe 5 single family floorplans, and the exteriors look very similar. People who bought 8 years ago as they were being built were able to make just a few simple choices/upgrades, but could not change the floorplans at all. When they were built they all had the same cabinets (3 different finishes), tubs, sinks, light fixtures, faucets, furnaces, water heaters, appliances (white or black), windows, doors, roofs, etc. That doesn't sound all that attractive, I know, but the benefit is that they were a very good value for the area and the houses although not gracious, are really easy to live in and efficient.

rocketmomkd, I thought my Jadite was going to be so pretty in there. I couldn't wait to display it. And then I did. It didn't look good at all. I couldn't believe it. I put it in a cupboard instead. At least I use it a lot more now.

Gotcha. I didn't think of that possibility last night, but I did today. We just call it tract house here.

I know I found my previous tile countertop absolutely vile, I would've changed it to just about anything else. Your wood countertops are just beautiful, and reclaimed? Really?! That makes it even more fantastic. Kudos for the added green factor. Functional, practical, beautiful.
