granite fabricator/installer recommendation - Cleveland

I'm looking for recommendations for a fabricator in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Thanks.

We purchased our stone from Mont Granite. They have an excellent selection but they do not fabricate. Due to contractor 'preference' (or kickback), our fabricator was O'Brien Cut Stone. Their fabrication was very good although granite selection not as extensive as at Mont Granite. We had no difficulty getting them to come out a month after installation to fill 3 small chips we found during the course of using our new kitchen. Good luck!

Thank you - we have picked a slab at Mont Granite, and our contractor does just about everything but deal with the granite. So we can use any fabricator. Mont does have the most extensive selection we have seen!

I do not recommend All Granite (also known as No. 1 Granite). My sister used them and they are less expensive but her slabs discolored. I also heard bad things about them from other places while shopping. Be cautious. I bought my slab from European Marble & Granite in Jamesburg, NJ. Their website is emgcorp.com. Large yard with very nice people. They have several branches. I went to all of them I think (in Queens, Long Island, etc.)...LOL! Also IGM in New Jersey had a large selection and I think their place was an indoor warehouse. Good luck.

Not Trudymom, but I've had good luck at Stone Solutions (834.9211). As their name implies, they mainly carry stone tiles/mosaics (marble, travertine, slates etc.) and stone-like ceramics/porcelain. I think they've added glass tiles as well, but I don't remember their carrying any painted tiles. It has been a couple of years since I last used them, but I've purchased from them multiple times (backsplash, kitchen floor, and bathroom floors).

showrooms are practically useless for narrowing down your choices, imo. they show you tiny little samples that don't give you an accurate representation of the product. in order to go to a warehouse to view whole slabs, you usually have to have a fabricator call for you to set up an appointment. once you're in, you can browse literally thousands of slabs, but be prepared...it's kind of an industrial environment and can be kind of slow going if they have to pull slabs out for you to look at. what i'd suggest is narrowing down your choices by browsing some sites online that show various granites/stones. make a short list and then start looking at specific slabs in person. fyi, fabricators buy the slabs from the warehouse, cut it to your specs and install it. showrooms may/may not employ fabricators. most showrooms don't carry any inventory and simply outsource the work to an independent contractor (the fabricator). we viewed slabs at dal tile in elk grove village and had an excellent experience. it's very user-friendly. you can just walk through the aisle looking at all the slabs.

christine40, were you able to wander around yourself and see what worked for you? So nice that you found something you liked. I went to Great Lakes yesterday in Redford and I had to pick which ones I wanted to see in the showroom from the samples they had. The sales guy told me the samples were pretty much what they had. Then he called into the warehouse and had them pull out the 3 slabs I said I liked and took me back to see them. I was able to see the other slabs that were stacked in their bins as we walked over to see my choices, but didn't feel I could really walk around and see what struck me. I did ask about some of the other slabs we walked by and a few he named were not in the showroom. It wasn't really a positive experience. But it's my first trip out to a granite place, so I have more to go see and hopefully I'll have a better experience. Robin, I forgot to mention that the installer O'Brien sent out was "Willy". He checked and rechecked angles and measurements many times and was meticulous about the granite placement and seams during the actual installation. Some people we know just completed a job with Stoneworks and were not happy with the installation (wide seams and uneven island overhang). It is a beautiful place for ideas, though!

Where is Stoneworks? Is that the one on W. 150th? Today we're going to US Marble & Granite in Westlake to see what they have. I understand they do their own fabrication and installation. Robin

Stoneworks is at 5194 Richmond Road Bedford Heights (are you on the East side?) - somewhat near Virginia Tile if you know where that is. Stoneworksltd.com. They sell (small selection)/fabricate/install.

We are on the West side, much to the chagrin of my in-laws! (My husband grew up on the east side). We will probably skip Stoneworks, as we are pretty close to our decision - finally. Thanks for the info.
