WWYD-sensitive subject - deciding when to put cat to sleep.
Comments (51)I'm so sorry for the grief and stress you've felt throughout this time. You've done a kindness -don't forget that. It was difficult, but you did it because you loved Keo and wanted her to stop hurting. I've had to do it a number of times, and it's always so incredibly difficult, and always followed by weeks of melancholy. But I've never regretted it. Right now I know of a kitty, about 17 years old, who weighs about 3 lbs., and is truly suffering every day from many ailments. Her owners believe they'll 'know' when the time is right to put her down, but to everyone else, it looks like the time is right here, right now, and we feel such sorrow and pity for this poor, frail, hurting kitty..... You did the right thing. I don't know whether you're familiar with this poem, or whether it will resonate with you, but I thought I'd pass it on... The Last Battle If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this " the last battle" can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close "we two" these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears. - Unknown...See MoreCould use some help with small guest/study layout
Comments (11)Lavender Lass, I LOVE that built-in bed. I always dreamed of sleeping in a nook like that, as a kid! I wish it would work in this room, but the narrow width, and closet position is very limiting. I'm keeping that photo in my inspiration folder. Thanks! Colleennc, I agree, it's okay that the bed doesn't make into a level king. Those that stay the longest with us, no longer sleep well in the same bed. In fact, it's better if they're as far away from each other as possible. :-) Ah, snoring. I like your idea of using part of the closet storage for guests and part for storage. Writersblock, I have considered a murphy bed, but due to budget constraints, and fear of mechanism failure (and our four rowdy children), I decided against it. I agree, though, it would be the absolute best use of space in here. Shades of Idaho...I think you're right about the closet. Our guests use the hanging space, but just a few hangers, and could probably just hang that amount on a hook over the back of a door. Great idea! That closet is currently outfitted with tons of shelving, and we have most of our library of books in there right now. Lovely guest room you have! Marti8a, it is true, that a trundle pulled out beside the bed makes the room impractical. There's no room for nightstands, and it's hard for the one on the daybed to get out, with the trundle right there. I'm a little afraid of murphy beds, but maybe the two chairs, as in Summerfield's drawing, would eliminate the daybed/trundle problem! Wow Summerfield! I am so excited about your drawing! It's perfect!!! Are there brands that you recommend for sleeper chairs? I have a Drexel Heritage Sleeper chair, the Natalie, with the air dream mattress. I honestly, don't like blow-up mattresses at all, so would want to buy a foam-type. Does anyone here have experience with American Leather, or American Upholstery sleeper pieces? I think this is the desk I want for the room! Gonna have to start saving! http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/desks/incognito-mocha-compact-office/s590617 Thanks everyone! I am getting excited about this room. It has been vexing me since we moved in over a year ago....See MoreAnyone's kids sleep on a Futon nightly ?
Comments (38)I am trying to imagine a doctor being asked about what the kids should sleep on. Nope, can't imagine a doc having an opinion on that at all. I am not sure that futons vs. springed beds is covered in medical school. As a teen, I had a nice little trundle bed. I could stretch out my legs on either side and my toes could touch the ground. I learned how to roll over without moving to the left or the right. It was a handy skill for when I was at college and sleeping 8 ft up in the air in a loft. A popular trundle-type bed that I see advertised these days has an upper bunk that is a twin bed, then a futon-style full size bed that can be a couch or a bed. It sounds like you have just dispensed with the upper bunk. ;-) If the son likes it and it does not cause problems now, I do not see how it can cause problems in the long run. If a medical transcriptionist hasn't seen it in 20 years of typing notes, it is not a common problem....See MorePortable beds for guests? Suggestions??
Comments (29)Aerobeds are awesome. I sleep great on them. We have three (2 queens and a twin). I understand the problem of getting off of them when they are low to the ground, but the problem with the higher ones is that you can't sleep very close to the edge or you roll off--because the nearest solid surface is so far away. This doesn't leave a lot of sleeping space. For this reason, unless we are sleeping alone on an Aerobed, the lower ones are better except for those few moments (per use) when you are getting up. Our family thinks that the many hours of sleeping are more important than those few moments spent getting off the bed....See Morepatches123
