24W x 36H Inset cabinet, 1 door or 2 doors?

Another decision that needs to be made.

We are going to have two or may be even four 24"-wide cabinets. KD likes the two doors but I think they are too narrow and I may prefer one bigger door especially with the inset style. KD says one door is too big and you need to stand too far back to open it.

Anyone with 24" cabinets out there? As always, pictures would be very helpful

I had a 24" cabinet, by itself so it didn't have to match door sizes with anything else. I originally had two 12" doors but when I changed the configuration and shortened that cabinet, I went with one 24" wide door. Your KD is right, it IS a big door and does stick out past the countertop, so if you have shorter people it might pose a hazard since it's in that blind spot that causes us to whack our heads on the corner of the door. Mine is against a wall so the chance of that is minimized.

I didn't dislike the two door look, my problem was that the size I needed only came in a 24" width. I did notice that my handles, at 9" wide, did look a bit oversized on the narrower door. If you had knobs that would not be an issue.

The cabs either side of the window/sink are 24"wx42"h.

A single door in a 24" cabinet is 21" wide, and has a very broad(intrusive?) swing. You may have to step back out of the way each time you open it. The downside to inset+2doors+24" cabinet= doors are really narrow; to remove a dinner plate requires opening both or being able to tilt plate sideways.

I'd go with the 36" bases if I wanted them and if after 15 years, the slides wear out, go crazy and replace the slides. But...for dishes maybe the 24s would be better? Quick--arrange your dishes how you'd want them in drawers and see if you'd waste too much space with the 24s. I generally like giant drawers because you only have to open one thing to see everything, but functionally, for everyday dishware, I'm not sure. But I wouldn't worry about the drawer glides.

Hi, I started using Conestoga back in 2010 when Casey was about the only one here who had them. I was nervous but took the plunge. Love their RTAÃ¢ÂÂs! In my last house my husband and I built this kitchen with full overlays. The finish was still perfect three years later when I sold. In the house IÃ¢ÂÂm in now we are doing inset cabinetry in the master bath. One is not harder than the other to assemble. Although I buy my cabinets from Chad at Cabinetmakerschoice the cabinetjoint has the best Conestoga assembly videos.

Thanks everyone! Your feedback is very helpful! cali_wendy: we are going to have a soffit. I had a panic attack about that a couple of weeks go when I learned that soffits are "out"... but I actually kind of want a soffit, because it will give me some wall area to paint and add some color. We have a lot of high wainscoting in the entrance, dining room... so we will have a lot of white. So, the cabinets won't be in for 5-6 weeks... I will post pictures as soon as there is something to take a picture of :)

I think it also depends on what else you have in your kitchen; especially on what will be in the immediate vision of your glass cabs. In my case the 24" glass cab is beside 3 21" single doors, so going with the 24" single glass (frameless) door was a no brainer in my case. Double doors would have looked ridiculous in that space, especially as I wanted mullions to match the glass lowers on our range wall. I also reasoned that the double doors would have blocked out a lot of what to display (it would have left only two smallish pieces of glass with a wider center area of door trim). I guess that's a long-winded way of saying that I think either a single door or double doors could look good in context of what else you have going on around it. Thanks for that picture, exactly what I needed. Just want to confirm, are the cabinets themselves 42" high or all together the cabs plus the white soffit? BTW, what does your username mean?

annab6: cabinets themselves. and, the name means nothing- I liked the sound of the 2 words together. French words ending in -euil look cool. Sombreuil is a nice old-fashioned white rose variety.
