Lighting alternatives for sloped ceiling?

Long time lurker, first time poster here!

My husband and I purchased a home two weeks ago and immediately gutted the kitchen. We are trying to figure out the lighting/electrical so we can start putting it back together but I'm really stumped for lighting over the sink.

Looking at the picture the sink will be centered on the window and there won't be any upper cabinets on that wall. There will be upper cabinets on the left wall with under cabinet lighting and there will be an island (in front of the sink) with pendant lighting.

Recessed lighting isn't an option on the slope (not enough space) and I'm afraid track lighting would look weird since it would be perpendicular to the beams. The only thing I can think of is to rebuild the soffit, but when we removed the existing soffit I loved how open the windows became.

Any other suggestions? I've been trying to google myself some examples but haven't been too lucky.

Rejuvenation makes lights that can be mounted on a slope - they hang / bend at the ceiling. Maybe one of those?

What is the measurement on those joists? Mine were 2x8 so had plenty of space for an angled recess can. Got them at HomeDepot on clearance. Maybe add a strip of wwod to the bottom of each joist to give clearance for the can, not sure how much it would cost but if you had your heart set on recessed lighting, it might be worth it to you. Or maybe there is a shorter height can out there. I didn't need to look for one so not sure if they exist.

thank you. I did call the manufacturer who suggested I try Home Depot for opaque lighting cups. Sure enough, I was able to by three of them for only about $13.00 total. I put them in last evening and the disco light ball in my bedroom is now a thing of the past! Thanks again.

Low voltage recessed lighting for artwork, sloped ceiling

Just thought I'd post a picture of my lighted art work. We ended up using just one 4 inch recessed low voltage light with the aiming elbow trim. To me it does not look like it needs the 4 or more lights that the previous poster suggested. There certainly is a big difference in how the art looks with and without being lit. First picture is with recessed light off. The flash made a white spot on picture. Second picture is with light turned on. No flash needed on camera what do you think?

David... This combination (chandelier and recessed lights over the island) is definitely different and I have not seen photos of this combination. I am wondering if a compromise would be to use only 3 chandeliers or pendants over the island only and move the recessed lights along the wall where the cabinets are located more toward the center of the aisle between the cabinets and island. Right now the recessed lights are 32" from the wall. The aisle distance between the cabinets and island will be approximately 48". Currently I am using a Cree Par30 short neck 3000K 40 degree beam spread bulb in the Juno can with clear alzak trim. The hope is that the light will spread toward the counter tops along the cabinets as well as the counter top on the island. Please provide your feedback. FYI.. Another option could be to add another row of recessed lights along the front of the island and have 3 chandeliers or pendants centered along the island. See photos attached of lighting options above island.... The last photos is what the final lighting plan could eventually look like depending on the placement of the recessed lights near the island. Bev is right -- rods require special treatment for alteration. Even if you can cut one end of one section and not have to deal with threading, you need a clean cut or you will have a mangled rod and/or a messed up finish. The chains will be much easier. You installer should be able to shorten one side on almost any chain. If the available info doesn't tell you that it can be adjusted, contact the manufacturer or have the seller investigate it for you.

There isn't enough space for recessed lighting? I would have expected there to be some general standards of depth of ceiling joists and a variety of recessed lights that would fit. What style are you looking for? There is a huge variety of track lighting out there, some of which are quite unobtrusive looking. I've also seen some track lighting mounted on a wall (kind of like picture lighting). Are you planning for cabinets on either side of the window? If not, you could do some wall sconces, though you'll still need overhead lighting as well.

We also have a sloped ceiling, and not enough rafter depth for recessed. I used a hanging fixture that can swivel over the sink, and track lighting for the general kitchen lighting as well.

You can do a monorail system on a sloped ceiling.
