If you have a little patience for a little bit of a steep learning curve, and you think well in 3D, then I think Google SketchUp is the best thing going - and it's free! Watch the online video tutorials. Once you get the basic concepts you can go to work. It's a generic 3D modeler, but is particularly well suited for architecture. You really are virtually unlimited in what you can model. I've modeled our entire Kitchen/Family Room with vaulted ceilings running in two directions down to the fraction of an inch, and have used to plan our upcoming remodel.

Try google sketch up. It's free. There are also free training videos you can watch to learn it.

Is there any software you can get or sites you can use to plan what your kitchen will look like? I know lots of you post your kitchen plans, but don't know if you did that or your contractor. I cannot quite picture how moving/adding cabinets here will look! I'd also like if you could add paint colors, too, but don't know if that's possible. Thanks!

Each one has more options. I'd visit the website and you'll find (somewhere on there) a list that kind of runs down the products and does comparisons. They get pretty detailed on the cabinet area on that list if I remember right. Frankly...I have to say, I'd just puchase the $500 one and start there...but that's because I bought the cheap one and felt I'd wasted money on it after I learned it wouldn't do what I needed. I also saved a great deal of money by using it (I didn't need to have several plans drawn up...we used mine). It was worth the cost to save that money in the long run. One thing I did like was that it was pretty easy to use (both versions). I purchased another home design program for around $100 and was sorry I had done so. It was hard to use and didn't do much at all (I don't remember the name and it's not on this computer sorry). OH I just remembered...I saw the BH&G program at Costco last visit. You might check there. I have no idea what the charge was, but it's normally cheaper....
