Schlage Andover Door knobs: Do you have aged bronze or ORB?
Comments (1)I did exactly what you are doing...replaced door hardware thinking I was going with ORB (for Schlage brand) and ended up going with the aged bronze because it's much warmer. My lighting and fixtures are different in each area of the house and the door hardware was not chosen to match the lighting, but instead I focused on what would look best on the door and flow well with all finishes as well as become a finish that would be consitent with any changes in decor a new homeowner might make. I found the aged bronze does better that way because it becomes a no focus item on my dark brown doors and the warm color works well with anything. They are wearing well and still look great after a few years use. My only complaint with them (and this would have been an issue with any but the ugliest and cheapest knobs I could have chosen) was that when I switched out the horrible old builder gold ones the schlage didn't fit the current drilling on the doors so I had to buy adapters for them to fit which cost almost as much and in a few cases more than the knobs themselves. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat though. They are very nice....See MoreHow many knobs do you have?
Comments (16)I have 30 in the master bath. And three drawers with hidden knobs. 18 (I think) in the master closet...no wait 22 with the drawer pulls. 8 in the library (one built in) two in the powder room, 5 in the downstairs bath, three in the laundry room, 50 in the kitchen...so, 135? Give or take a couple? Now ask how many extras I have...(close to the same number LOL E gads wait, the giraffes on the laundry closet are two more, then DS's room....three there....and the cat house has two...ok I'm going to quit counting :oP...See Morecabinet knob/pull templates-have you altered one?
Comments (3)Thanks-I think that's what I'll do-add the holes. I read it's a good idea to put masking tape over all the holes and then poke out the ones you're using. The template I have has a ton of holes. Just not the holes I need. Go figure. I really don't want to use just a tape measure, pencil, masking tape and awl. I have over 40 doors and drawers to install knobs/pulls on and I want to streamline it at least a little bit....See MoreDo you have knobs or pulls?
Comments (27)I went with all pulls except for knobs on the very upper stacked cabinets and some other upper cabinets in my dining room buffet (those ones got knobs). All "daily use working" cabinets are pulls. I chose pulls instead of knobs because they are more aging-friendly (easier to pull a pull instead of a knob if your hands are arthritic or otherwise impaired) and my elderly mom lives with us. Plus, I just think they are easier to use in general. I did single pulls (varied width -- with wider ones on the wider 30-36" drawers) for all drawers 36" and narrower, and only did double pulls on drawers wider than 36" (custom cabinets, and have a few that are 40-44"). I think they all look good. :) I, too, chose pulls with no poking out ends, as I, too, wanted to avoid the snag-your-clothes thing. BTDT, don't like it....See Moreprill
