I don't know anything about that particular mattress, sorry. But you can save a ton of money by going to a foam shop, selecting exactly what you want, and having them put it in a plain zippered cover for you. That's what I did.

We just went through mattress shopping and have had our latex mattress for about a month now. We're very happy with it. It's hard to get out of bed in the morning, it's so comfortable!

A few pointers. I read the specs on this one that you are looking at, and if anything is going to be prone to sagging it's the 3.5" foam & quilt top. IMHO that's alot of foam/padding on top of the latex and makes me wonder why.

The latex underneath (2" talalay and 6" latex core) shouldn't sag. However, if it has a low ILD it will feel quite soft. 24 or even 36 ILD makes a nice top over a 44 ILD core. (the higher the ILD number, the firmer it is) But they don't tell you the ILD of either the 2" or 6" latex core. Perhaps they can tell you in the store.

There are 2 types of latex: Talalay and Dunlop. Opinions vary as to which is better. Also, buying a mattress is alot like buying a car. The price on the label is negotiable and they can come down in price.

Looks like it has a 15 yr warranty but is that prorated? or is it 100% for 15 yrs? The Sealy SpringFree (which is the same mattress as the Bassett Carrington Chase and the Stearns & Foster latex line) has a 20 yr warranty - the first 10 yrs are non-prorated and the 2nd 10 yrs are pro-rated. That's longer than a standard coil mattress because they know latex will hold up over the long run. We ended up with a Jamison latex which has a 20 yr non-prorated warranty.

So do a little homework - there's alot of information on the web about latex mattresses - and don't be afraid to do some bargaining on the price.

One last piece of advice - on the end of every mattress there is the "do not remove by penalty of law" tag which must list the contents of the mattress. Make sure to check the one you are buying - it should say 80% or 85% or 90% natural latex, etc. In other words, make sure you are getting what they are telling you.

We looked at one "latex" mattress and the end tag read "100% polyurethane foam"!! I turned & left that store immediately. (It was not one of the above brands that I mentioned) That tag might not be easy to get to - it might be up by the head of the bed in which case they might have to pull the mattress out for you to read it. It's your money, make sure you're getting what you think you're paying for.

I am a big admirer of latex mattresses, but a few years ago when I went to buy one locally I had to look long and hard to find a real latex mattress that had only latex components. Many so-called latex mattresses had all kinds of other non-latex foams sandwiched inside. Since none of of these other foams will feel the same or hold up as well as latex it seemed silly to pay a premium price for a hybrid product.

Have you looked at Flobeds.com? A couplea of years ago I bought one of their latex mattresses and it is great. Since getting the right feel may be hard over the internet, they will let you keep swapping the components until you get just the right fit. And each mattress (except for twin size) is divided in half, so if there are two sleepers each one can choose a different density. (There is a topper and zippered case which hold the two sides together - no falling through a crack.)

The good sleep on a latex matress doesn't come from the cushy padding on top. It's inherent in the latex itself and worth going to some trouble to get.

If you are environmentally-minded, maybe it will please you to know that natural tallalay latex comes from tree sap and eventually the entire mattress can be disposed of by composting. (But you shouldn't have to worry about that for a long time. I sleep on a natural latex mattress that's more than 45 years old. I've had it recovered several times.) Ordinary foam comes from petroleum products (hence the stink).

All mattresses are shockingly expensive, but if I'm going to have pay so much, I want a good, natural, product, not a lot of tarted-up synthetic materials and foam.

Since your body is not flat, latex mattress win over spring ones, by adapting to your shape, thereby distributing the body weight uniformly and preventing any pressure points while sleeping. A good nightÂs sleep can do wonders, energizing the body to face the next day. So what if itÂs a little more expensive? The face that one third of a manÂs life is spent on his bed should be a reason enough to consider these latex mattresses.
