Thickness of honed black countertop

I am getting honed absolute black granite countertops for my kitchen (with white shaker style cabinets) for a new house we are getting built. For granite, the builder usually uses 2cm slabs with the 4cm laminated edge so that it appears to be 4cm or 1&1/2 inches thick. This looks fine on the giallo ornamental granite in the model, however would this 4cm edge look too thick for the honed black granite? Would it look better as a 2cm slab/edge...or should I ask about a 3cm thick granite? I am not sure if they can do the 2cm edge because the backing might show?? please help...if you have honed black counters or something similar how thick was your granite? What should I do? Thanks for any help!
