Viking vs. Dacor: 48'' dual fuel range

I am deciding between a Viking and a Dacor 48'' dual fuel range (both w/ sealed burners & self cleaning ovens). So far-- the differences I've noticed include no option for a grill w/ the Dacor (and griddle is a detachable piece)and that the Dacor has a temperature probe (while the Viking doesn't). I think that they are comparably priced. I'd love to hear from someone with experience with either of these models. And how do they compare to the Wolf 48'' dual fuel range?

you might want to check on the appliance forum. You could do a search on each of these ranges and see what people had to say.

We have an all gas Viking. When I was shopping for it 5 years ago I brought the various bakeware I used most into the showrooms and tried them in the small ovens (I use the small oven 95% of the time.) Even though the dimensions of the small ovens were similar in the Viking and Decor, the size of the supports holding the racks affected what would fit in the oven. I had my heart set on the Decor but it wouldn't fit my 9 1/2" pie pan or my 9x13" pyrex baking dish. The supports interfered. I would have had not idea this was a problem by just reading the specs (since only the dimensions of the oven were listed, not the "usable" space.) So we ended up with DH's and DD's first choice, a Viking. It seems that Wolf has a better reputation but it was significantly more $ in the stores I was shopping.

I saved myself from a big mistake. I'm not suggesting this would be a problem in your case (this was 5 years ago + I think it was only a problem with the gas models--not the electric ones) but I am suggesting you thoroughly check out the models you are considering.

I'd look at other brands - Wolf, DCS, Capital, Bluestar although the last 2 have only all-gas ranges.

I think the electrolux is fairly new compared to the Decor or Wolf. But someone who owns one would be a better judge. Also, not sure if you are comparing apples to apples. I don't think it is in the same price range as the decor or Wolf. With all that said, I searched for 6-9 months. Read every single forum on this site regarding ranges and talked to appliance store who sold many of my choices and this is what I will be receiving shipment on next week for my new house. The WOLF 36" DF range. I honestly looked at the Dacor, THermador, Viking, and I forget the other one but very similar to the decor. I liked the look of the Thermadore better then the Wolf, but there had been some small issues with the Thermadore and I just couldn't find any negatives with the Wolf. Hope this helps.

Bluestar is an AG (all gas) range, so either you change your requirement for a dual fuel range, or delete Bluestar from your list. Both Viking and Dacor have had lots of complaints, and also lots of people who love them, so it'll be hard to decide based on people's reviews. Viking does come in colors if you'd like that for your kitchen. Viking offers models with open burners, while Dacor only offers sealed burners. I myself have a Dacor 30" all gas range, and it has been an excellent performer, wonderful broiler, very even-temperature baking. However, for my "next" kitchen (whenever that will be), I will get an open burner range. Having had the sealed burners, I know I prefer the open burners (do a search on this forum "open burners sealed burners", and you can read about the differences). We purchased a Thermador 48” Dual Fuel range with 6 burners and an induction unit and double oven. Model PRD486WIGU. originally wanted a Wolf, but was told it was going to be about 9 to 12 months. Contractor suggested Airport Appliance who said they could get Thermador in 4 months which at the time would accomodate our remodel schedule. Turned out Thermador took 9 to 12 months, depending on the appliance, to deliver all appliances. Rude Thermador Customer service, hours wait to talk to someone, required 100% payment upon order. had our $25,000 whole time. Airport Appliance not much better. Lied about delivery times and deposit amount. Have had 3 service calls on range in first 6 months with burner issues. In my previous home we had a 48” Thermador cook top which we were pleased with which also influenced our decision to go with Thermador again, but never again! I dont recommend Airport Appliance either. Good luck however you decide.
