Copper Counter Tops
Comments (11)I have a copper counter on my island. The island is painted black/distressed. I love how it looks. There is little to no upkeep, I just wipe with a wet rag. But you do have to like/love patina. Copper will react to oils in your skin, beverages etc. But for me this is all part of the charm. I love to see the changes. We are currently building a new home and I am planning on bringing the island with me. (KD thinks we may be able to fit a larger island). At minimum I'm taking the counter with me for somthing in the future. I'll try to get pictures over the weekend....See Morehigher counter (38 in): potential issues?
Comments (7)We are doing the exact same thing and I am DYING to have them! We only have 92.5" ceilings, so are doing 33" uppers, very tiny (1.25") crown to finish them off, and light rail so that we can still have 18" of head space. I don't care if the buyers in 10 years can't reach the top shelf. I don't even think they'd notice. I am 6'1/2", DH is 6'2", and when I cook in any sort of shoes (we're talking 1-2" of flip flops and clogs and not pumps), I literally can only touch the 36" counters with my fingertips. Much leaning and bending. Actually, what I do is stand very hipshot to lower myself, which is majorly yanking my spine out of alignment. I have to force myself to stand square, often spreading my legs to lower myself. Which looks stupid and makes me feel awkward. I'm not spending thousands on a kitchen and feeling awkward in it. :) We're almost ready to pull the trigger on Ultracraft, and for no upcharge, they build taller base cabs so that we don;'t have 2" platforms and massive 6" toekick. 36" is only standard because the first round of stock and semicustom cabs decades ago decided as much and it is just fine for most people. If you want 38", GET them!...See Morepros and cons of 38" counter in kitchen?
Comments (3)Our kitchen benches and bathroom vanities are all 38" high. We are also a tall family and love the extra height. I also have a mobile chopping block which is 39" which I find very comfortable when using....See MoreWolf Sealed Burner RangeTop - Flush to counter
Comments (6)Check the installation instructions. They should tell you unambiguously. Most high-BTU gas ranges require that the range or rangetop is raised about the level of the counters. Even if it is only be a small amount. But without checking the instructions, I wouldn't be able to say whether that is true for this particular model. Personally, I'd be less concerned if I installed granite or some other natural stone. But I'd be very weary and follow instructions precisely if I had quartz. Quartz is a man-made material and about a third of it is resin. The latter can discolor and scorch, when it gets to hot. So, it is important to follow all the instructions for how to keep excessive heat away from adjacent counters....See Morebrickeyee
