Well that particular rug doesn't look right...but without actually having your flooring in and being able to see your actual couch it's hard to say.

I'd wait till you have your actual flooring in before buying a new rug.

I don't think an oriental style works for your room. I'm seeing a more contemporary rug, something with stripes or other geometric features. The stone in your fireplace is rustic, and all the gray does not work with the oriental style.

Have you looked at any other IKEA rugs? They have such cute ones but I've yet to find one that will work with my colors in my house!

I agree that particular rug does not work in your room. Your couch and stone FP are cool whereas the rug is a warm colored rug. If you really want an oriental rug, you can certainly make it work--just look for more ivory, blue, black and/or burgudy.

I would not recommend purchasing a rug on Overstock until you are more confident of your vision for this room. I would look at local stores--anywhere from Home Depot, TJ Maxx, to Macys depending on budget is fine. You can order smaller rugs and try it out in your room first to see what works and then return. Make sure to educate yourself on the pros/cons of tufted, handknotted and flatweave rugs as well as wool vs. cotton vs. synthetic (olefin or polyproplin). Determine a budget as rugs can be very costly, but a good quality rug may be worth it in the long run.

Another very important and often overlooked consideration is the size of the rug. Overstock does have some guidelines for determining the best rug size. Considerations like do you want all furniture on the rug or off are very important. I've found with hardwood, if furniture is floating in the room, it will slide around if not grounded against a wall or front legs of the furniture placed on a rug. For this reason I like all my rugs to be large enough so that I can place the furniture legs on it, but not so large that I cannot show off my hardwood floors.

I see IKEA DOES have my purple rug still. That rug also comes in sand, grey and green. I think I'll just get another one now that the puppy is house broken.

But I'll need a runner behind the couch because the dogs use that as a "trail."

I also like Sue's suggestion--something with a more geometric, tribal feel to it than the more formal floral persians with center medallian. Your room does need some pattern and texture to it to add more interest.
