WEll acutally the prep work guys are here... I was so excited to get this house painted and now... well lets just say we are already running into problems. The pressure washing guys hosed all the stuff I had on the front porch.. I understand that they don't *get* that it's a vintage metal glider and that "old blanket" is actually a wonderful example of primitive quiliting... but dang!!!! They were supposed to move everything but they did not and I had to call the owner then he gets her and while nice I can tell he thinks I am a crazy too! They have this odd way of making me feel angry and guility all at the same time... must have learned from my mother!

Well, good heavens -- even if it were truly just "old junk" on your porch, they still have no right to destroy it! At least I hope what they managed to pressure wash (that wasn't actually your house) was not ruined, but salvageable. Don't let 'em get you down!

If you paid them extra for moving things and it is in your contract, then you have two good legs to stand on to make them compensate you for it. I had a contract with the flooring people to move my refrigerator, table back into the kitchen after the floors were put down so that we would not scar them up not having the right equipment. They did and they scarred them up and although it took me a while to get them back out here to redo the area where they dug holes in the new wood flooring, finally we did and it was not only in the contract but written in bold lettering for them to see.

I think either will work, but you have to decide how you want it to look. Painting it the colour of the ceiling will emphasize it, and painting it the wall colour will make it blend/disappear. My personal choice would be the ceiling colour. If you don't like it it would be easier to paint it the wall colour later yourself than vice versa. I like the idea of highlighting it.

I always thought that room would be divine in red. Alas, that is your least favorite color. Bending your mind with a divining color. I have another luncheon today so when I return I hope you have us some new pictures up of your beautiful bedroom and "what about the red?" Are we going there? Gads, I so relate to the paint splotch angst. Iron Mountain appears to be a fantastic color, but at least on my screen it does seem to be in the same basic color family as your current color. Do you want to stay there in the blues? I'm having trouble seeing a green with Iron Mountain, but agree that the right gray could be smashing. I am such a fan of white trim, it makes me rather unhelpful on that question. White would also go with your windows, if you want to stay away from painted ladies...pretty as they might be. White would highlight the trim, though. Is Iron Mountain on a swatch with lighter tones on the same swatch? Looking forward to the pics of last-minute samples - and totally rooting for you. The house looks huge and full of character, you lucky woman.

I've posted before, IMO, there is nothing "wrong" about painting brick, we've done it, we know many others who have and it works beautifully, without the upkeep and dreadful things others have warned (who perhaps have not done it themselves?). HOWEVER, with that said, easy does it. Why not paint the siding, live with it, and then make a decision re: painting the brick? Do it next year, giving yourself time to (a) look at other homes with similar situations where brick was painted and (b) look on Houzz for pics of painted brick homes and (c) do research on painting your particular type of brick. Different brick may call for different applications, painting, lime wash or color on front door or light fixtures to tie together as others suggested.

Luckily nothing was runied, more than anything I just felt that my things were being disrespected. They just assumed that if it was out on a porch that it could get wet with no problem. Thing is that my porch stays dry (very deep eaves) and in all but the most gale-force storm it stays very dry.

In the end I was feeling very... looked down upon that we had not yet had the house painted.. we have been working on this house for 6 years and no we have not painted but somehow I ended up feeling at fault and talked down to. I am sure on top of the fact that my left leg quite working this week ( nerve issues) I am feeling more tender.. it just got to me.
