Wow, that is really good. That's a cute house. I'll bet you can fix it up really cute. I am sure you will get some great ideas here.

That is such a blank slate - you could do all kinds of things with it (budget permitting). I think what you've done would be a great start. I'd add some trim pieces here and there in the white. I'd also be tempted to add some dormers.

Oooo, dormers. I was thinking of making a room which would be loft like. And a beadboard ceiling or wood, for the boy... see the loft bedroom.

I think it's cute. A little paint, landscaping, maybe a new front door or storm door (hard to see what's there). Not sure I'm crazy about the dark red and black, but it gets the point across that paint makes a big difference.

Well, before you pick a paint color, make sure you undertand why the foundation is cracked....

I can't see me picking farmhouse red, but I thought it'd be fun.

I can even fixed a cracked foundation (go under the house, find the low spots, add breeko blocks, jacks, it's easy, bothersome, but easy)... depending on several things. I will get an inspector. I'm not deadset on it, we'll see.

How cute!! Be sure to follow the inspector's advice-listen carefully!! Ask LOTS of questions, and listen to your "gut". This could really be a cutie!!! IF all is well.
THere are so many possibilites, depending on your buget. We always do necessities then build on that-thus are homes have always looked good; and this keeps our spirits up in between projects. Now a few thoughts:

Exteior: The dark red is nice, it can fade-red oxidizes.
If you want to go for cottage, the tri color combo is great. Would you consider Lt. Med. BLue, Darker med. Blue and white? For shutters-can you use a simple skill saw? take 2 planks of wood and cut half a heart from each, then with a small space between put the hearts together for a shutter-We did this and it worked great!! Of course you'll need to sand and paint. not sure how well I am at explaining-but does work great. Depending on how much you do with the porch,( more bri-brac), a new white screen door could help.
Landscaping is the next biggy; around that foundation, flowering scrubs, ect.

Of course you can fix the cracks in the foundation; what dgmarie probably meant was you should find out what caused it (for sure).

A big ol' porch with wicker, blue, blue, and white and nicer shutters.... hm. another possibility or two in there. No offense meant to dgm. Only meant, unless it's a failed foundation, I bet it's probably ok. It is sitting on a hill and it is old, very likely just regular settling, weather, and the dirt washing down the hill over the yeas. Not to mention, we've had massive drought. Plus, i doubt they made it this far with a failed foundation. Eh, I've seen worse. And this is just for fun. I have a handful of month's left, and my heart is hardly set. But whatever I choose will be decorated cottage style. Relaxation is what its theme will be.

How about the inside? Is it roomy enough and have sufficient closet and storage space?

First thing I'd do (once inspection is clear) is extend the roof lines and get overhangs on that house, all sides. The overhang adds a feeling of 'shelter' to a house - a big step to create that cottage feeling.

What did you decide to do to this house? I like what you've done. Haven't ruined it at all. ; ) I really like the darker red.

I would also repeat the column and bracket on the side of the porch. Window boxes. Even a cupola would be cool.

The stone is great. I would consider putting stone under the porch instead of the lattice to give that end of the house more weight.

Not sure dormers would work, since they are not suppose to go past the roof line, but you could do a shed dormer (on the back).

Replace screen door with nice wooden screen door or wooden storm door. Or don't replace and have only the front door.

I haven't gotten to do anything with it yet. What will I do? I am not certain. I'd do the stone around the porch too, and then add concrete caps. I'd have to show you what I'm thinking about, it looks better than it sounds. Ultimately, I'd like to move the door since it looks like its falling off the house! But, I will add on to the back and then up at some point. All the houses around it are 2 stories and it kinda stands out, not in a good way. Mostly, I'm just trying to get into the area. He's country mouse, and I'm city. Guess that's why we're parting ways.

What, you don't like Rock City barns? :) I wouldn't want my home to look like that! I do like them on the side of the road. I'm not even sure I'd do red. I liked the double blue idea and wrap around porch, and.... and... and.... but it's gonna take a lot of time.

I thought about saying stone steps also. Great minds.

No! I love See Rock City barns. I just didn't want you to get carried away and paint it on the roof of your home. lol
