Last winter a few of us took advantage of Lee Valley hardware free shipping. They have some cool stuff and free shipping is always good. They have another one now to the 11th. If you are ready for hardware and stuff, now would be a good time. And they are Canadian so the money exchange favors the U.S.

I only ordered the drawer divider things, a set of drawer slides and 35 drawer handles which I am not going to use after all but the quality is really nice. Too many handle/knob choices! Get a paper catalog so you can look and look.

Lee Valley rocks, especially the steel food scales, the steel measuring cups and spoons, the Swiss-made spray bottles that you can use in any position (including upside down) and the nifty little white plastic surgery scrub brushes. I get stocking stuffers for the whole family there, too. You will never get the high quality at a low price like Lee Valley offers anywhere else. DH loves his new knife block that is packed tight with plastic straws/sticks. You just insert your knives anywhere and the straws hold them in place. If you know anyone into wood working, their Veritas catalog is fun to look at, too.

I have been in several Lee Valley Stores in Canada and they are amazing! One of the best purchases that we made was the cone coffee filter holder---$3.30. It mounts on the inside of the cabinet door and you refill it once in a while. Just perfect for storing your filters. Page 219 in the hardware catalog. It is really mind boggling when you are at the store as they carry all of this stuff that is in the catalog. It is also a woodworker's paradise. They have a woodworker's shop at the back of the store and I think they also teach woodworking classes. They also are very prompt at responding to any email questions that you may have (been there) and the catalogs are beautiful when you get them.

Please help us decide! Our beautiful new cedar front porch (modern, built by Japanese carpenter, yes I'm very pleased with it!) needs to be finished with some kind of sealer as we are in Canada and winter will be here before I blink twice. I am hoping to avoid the sad graying that befell our reclaimed cedar backyard deck that was never sealed! Japanese carpenter recommended yearly application of an oil finish to preserve the natural beauty of the cedar (he painstakingly nailed from underneath so the uncut cedar planks would not be marred) but was unable to source for us. We're considering tung oil of some kind, either Waterlox (hard to get and really expensive) or Lee Valley (local). We have used waterlox indoors in past (maple counter tops) with very good results. Should I use the Waterlox Original or perhaps the Marine Finish? Though hard to get in Canada but my husband is in Seattle on business next week so could lug some Waterlox back to Toronto on the plane. Or I could just mosey down the street to get the Lee Valley Polymerized Tung Oil that no one I know has ever used. If you were me what would you do?? Thanks for your recos, love the GW!

Ankh, my range wall is small, from left to right on the wall is pantry, hood, 15" wall cabinet. I have about 12" to the left of range and 24" to the right. I have plenty of counter space and storage on the opposite wall, but limited space next to the range. I have small cabinets on either side of the range, one is divided for cutting boards and baking sheets, the other is a spice pullout, which I also use for my larger bottles, vinegars and oils. The top shelf holds 24 of my smaller spice jars. The bottom shelf of the cabinet to the right also has spices and condiments. I have considered a spice rack on the door, but it is so small, the racks I have found would only hold 6 jars on 2 or 3 shelves. My main attraction to the rail system is the spice rack, the shelf that I can use to hold my iPad while I am cooking and the hooks/quiver for utensils. The rail would take these items off my counters, but still have them accessible. I'm not too worried about it getting greasy or dusty, I know that anything near the range will get dirty, so I will just make cleaning them a part of my routine.

Woo-hoo! I've been waiting to order the drawer dividers. I hope I order enough. Now I also have to order the measuring spoons and surgical brushes (thanks nancy_in_mich!). I just wish they had the Blumotion soft closers that I want.

Boy, sat here a big part of the afternoon looking through their catalogs. Too much fun!

I love their mini bottle brush set (3) They are wonderful to clean vases, decanters, toothbrush holders, hummingbird feeder... I also a big fan of the tin Christmas tree icicles they are beautiful with white lights on their own tree. I get a tree for the sun room (stays at 50 degrees) and just put lights and icicles this tree stays up till the end of January! IÂm on my way to spend money I shouldnÂt LOL Thanks!! Cindy
