Vicostone Quartz Available on the East Coast?
Comments (24)On June 2 2016 Canuck Designs an authorized company for Vicostone installed three slabs of Quartz tops Vicostone BQ100 on top of my existing cabinets of 24 years with a 15 year Vicostone warranty. On December 19 2020. I noticed a hair line crack that started in the middle of the countertop. I contacted Vicostone Calgary and told them the problem. They told me they would send a representative to look at the Hairline Crack. On January 13 2021. The company rep showed up. After serval days the company said, nothing would be done since my cabinets shifted and caused the problem. He also said my Installer should have told me to reinforce the cabinets. On a closer look, the crack happen above the lazy Suzie. That area has a solid top and attached with a support pole in the middle. It is the most’d supported area of the entire cabinets. I went one step further and talked to another authorized dealer for Vicostone. It looks like an issue with the stone itself says the authorized dealer. I also had a conversation with another authorized Dealer for Vicostone (They said, if there was a shift in the cabinets, the crack would start on the weakest point, in my case the ninety degree corner edge or the outside wall edge. I told them that the crack started in the middle of the slab and over a period of a month, it worked its way to the inside corner. (I have pictures before it moved to the corner) I was told more than once, if the weakest point was the middle of the slab, then it is an issue with the stone itself) I had a meeting with the company owner. As I tried to present the evidence. He ask me for my bill of sale from him. I said I handed the proof of purchase from Canack Designs to your rep. I don’t have a bill of sale from him since I bought from Canuck Designs, Canuck Designs bought from Vicostone.Canuck designs do not exist since the owner retired. I have pictures with a level, Cabinets have not shifted and perfectly level. Vicostone will not honor any warranty (Buyer Beware)...See MoreDoes anyone have Raven caesarstone?
Comments (9)Wish I had some pictures for you. Can you post pictures of yours? below are a few links that might help you. It looks (from google images) like it does indeed have a paint splatter look to the colors. Not pure gray. Too bad your original sample did not show this. ~bp Houzz Raven search http://www.houzz.com/Raven-Caesarstone Raven Caesarstone - Acetone splotches http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg072126516597.html Raven CaesarStone Counters http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0810083514967.html Here is a link that might be useful: Raven Caesarstone--real pics please!...See MoreCaesarstone Eggshell: did not pass the sharpie test
Comments (38)As far as Caesarstone goes, don't believe all the claims. I put their "Raven" color in a kitchen in a vacation house (used mostly in the summer) 2 years ago and it has already chipped around the sink AND on the surface. Not sure how that happened. Also under the drainboard it has water marks that I haven't been able to get out. I tried bleach, comet, soft scrub, acetone, nothing works. When I contacted Caesarstone, they said soft scrub with bleach, but even that did not work. I've given up and will live with it, but if I had known that it wasn't as "bulletproof" as everyone claims, I might have gone with a different countertop....See MoreSilestone Lagoon or Caesarstone London Grey?
Comments (67)Following up with a few more details.. Counter edge is Eased 1.5 inch thick. Quartz thickness was 2cm. Fabricators built up the edge to 1.5 inches with mitred corners. The mitre cut hides the seam totally. In CA this is a standard process. 2cm Ceasarstone will not properly cover the 5/8 inch plywood rough top the cabinet maker installs. I almost went with an ogee edge since the house and kitchen is traditional style. But I thought it might be too busy for shaker. The eased edge works well with shaker style. I chose ogee for the bath vanity where the cabinets and crown are more detailed. It fits perfectly in the bath. Or if you have a center island ogee is a nice choice on the island with eased edge on the perimeter. Alot of people opt for that... The floor color is Natural Timber glazed chestnut. I used a dark brown grout but should have gone 1 darker to espresso or possibly black. The grout lines wound up lighter than the tile even though it looked like a good match before install. I went with 1/16th on the spacing, however the box recommends no closer than 1/8th. 1/8th grout lines are wide and the floor will look less like hardwood but I'm not sure if ignoring the directions will compromise my floor in any way down the road. I had the installer avoid "stair step" install method and tried to achieve random length install to mimic hardwood. Essentially when he got to a wall and had to cut a piece I had him start on the other side with the cut piece to achieve a random look. It worked for the most part but this process is tricky. It is better to be there the entire time they are installing so you can make the decisions. I much prefer real wood. The white oak with dark stain pictured all over houzz are the most beautiful kitchen floors but with a 3 yr old it doesn't seem practical, I think it would have gotten destroyed. The wood plank tile is a nice alternative and the cleanup is very easy. Alot of people have actually mistaken it for solid wood. The finish is a matte. Every crumb shows but I'm assuming this is the case with any dark brown floor. One of the keys is finding the tile that is 48 in long, this is the same size a lot of solid wood planks come in. The tile that is 24 in long leaves too many grout lines all over the floor and compromises the wood look. The long plank tiles create some issues with install though, it is wise to have someone who has installed these before. The 24 inch pieces are easier to install.
