I have never heard of them. So, I looked it up and it appears that the paint they have proposed is an epoxy-based paint. I have painted cabinets with BM porch and floor paint, which is an epoxy-based paint, as well. And with excellent results.

I would have them show you actual painted cabinets (door sample, drawer sample, whatever), preferably in your color. That way you can make an informed decision.

What did you end up going with?

I used Dura Poxy on our wood paneled living room walls and it has held up to a lot of abuse for the last 10 years. Still looks amazing!

yep, good stuff, painted the interior part of my french door in Navajo white which is more beige to my eye, but the finish has withstood 2 years of heavy traffic so far and cleans up perfect still. I used a low gloss sheen, the finish is just sublime. I'm a cabinet painter and it's what I offer as my entry level package

Austin, you said you offer DuraPoxy as your "entry level" finish. Is there a product you recommend as a mid or high end finish for painted cabinets (that would be available in California)? I'm currently trying to decide between Kelly-Moore DuraPoxy, Benjamin Moore Advance, and PPG Break-Through. I would appreciate a pro's insight. Thanks!

FWIW, we ended up going with the PPG Break-Through for the kitchen cabinets. At my request, our painters initially bought Advance, but quickly discovered it doesn't spray as well as the PPG (or DuraPoxy). The Advance is too thin to easily spray vertical surfaces, and upon closer inspection of the Benjamin Moore instructions, they actually state the preferred application is brush or roller. I'd still go with Advance if those were the application methods being used. Good luck!

Has anyone used Kelly Moore EPIC paint on cabinets?

I was wondering the same thing as Elise. Elise did you go with the "new" lower box formula or the higher voc one? The old one is supposed to be more durable. What are mid and high end paints? can you give us some examples?

We just used EPIC @sfryeliz and I'm not seeing the same level of satisfaction that the DuraPoxy painters are raving about. It's been terrible. Even though we sanded the finish off the old cabinets, EPIC is not adhering well. It's still sticky and rolling or brushing did not work without strokes. Spraying worked great, but you need to be fast or else the over lapping spray will dry and show. We've sanded between each layer and the finish looks nice but we're in need of a clear top coat now in hopes of any durability and to reduce the stickiness.

I just painted my kitchen cabinets w high gloss epic paint over smart prime primer. ❤️! Finally! I can buy paint in CA that is terrific . It’s been a long long time .. I detest glumpy latex and have missed the smoothness of oil based paints . Epic definitely mimics oil , as does smart prime.
Epic is thin and smooth enough to spray through a HPLV sprayer ( unlike most latex paints) and easily wet sands to a glass like finish , if desired .

I didn’t find Epic To be sticky AT ALL. It may be the ambient temp or humidity levels that are affecting the paint .
Dura Poxy is not a favorite of mine for trim or cabinets simply because it looks “plasticy “ to me.
It IS quite durable and sometimes that’s all you need , depending on the situation .
EPIC is more of a “fine finish” look.

I offered Durapoxy in my entry package b/c it has a recoat time of 4 hours vs 24 with oil or oil hybrids (oil resins in a water base) like Epic, Advance or Pro classic hybrid) and isnt tacky after drying. In production time saved equals money saved. We can paint and reassemble a Durapoxy kitchen in 1 or 2 days vs 3 or 4 with oil/hybrid. Many Many small apt kitchens we were able to paint and reassemble same day which allowed us to offer the service for <$1K and maintain decent margins and a pricing advantage over our competitors. Recoat times are a major consideration.

The drying time on epic is I think 24 to re coat, and of course, drying times are a consideration when doing cabinets. Especially if that’s all the painting you’re doing at the job site .
I love the finished product I got w the epic high gloss on my own cabinets.
