That's how I feel. I just got the call that the washer we have on order won't be available until a few days after school starts (two school teachers). Our washer and dryer are in the kitchen and part of kitchen reno.

I am very, very, very fortunate to have inlaws whom I love very much, and like even better. And who live a few miles away. My MIL would do our laundry any time we brought it to her for the rest of our lives. Shoot, she'd even pick it up at our house if we asked.

But....ARRRRGH.

I'm exhausted. I'm tired of listening to workers work behind the big black curtain (plastic in the kitchen doorway). I felt better yesterday after we got lights and the plumbing correctly fixed (though there are a couple receptacle issues yet), but today I just feel beat down.

Sorry, when one is trapped at home alone with workers, what is one to do besides vent on the internet.

I hear you, on everything. I'm glad you have wonderful in laws. I have the same kind, that feel sorry for us during this whole ordeal that not only do we get leftovers after Sunday dinner (which has been going on for almost 10 years), but when my MIL comes to watch our son, she brings more food!

I'm also exhausted, which is why I can't even pick out pulls.

I feel what you're going through. At least take comfort knowing you're not the only one.

I think the trials of a reno, especially the kitchen, life force hub, makes it just drain..on every part of you.

There are parts of me that want to jump into it now, there are parts that say wait til there's a few less people in the house to work around.

I do remember the dirt, dust, disorder from the last remodel we went through about 10 years ago. 3 boys, the yongest 4 at the time. The 6 weeks of plywood counter tops. Finding sheet rock dust months later.

I don't know how those of you that do this every few years, can? Lol

I would imagine that most students or at least those students looking to pass the course take notes during lectures. ;-) The question is what's the best way to accomplish that. Laptops certainly can be useful but only for "text." If the class requires the instructor to, for example, draw graphs, charts, or equations, you're going to have a heck of a time keeping up with a computer. I took some classes a while back and just used pen and paper. When I got home, I typed my notes for two reasons. My handwriting is atrocious and it was a good way to review the material; perhaps clarifying my notes or adding additional material. If I missed something or had questions, it was a good time to make a list for the next class too. If you want to go the tablet route, there are accessory keyboards available for the iPad and the big name Android tablets. You might want to do a little investigation into any instructor requirements. If, for example, they want your homework in, say, a Word document, you'll need a device that can run Word.

Started using Charlies Soap, and still have dirty clothes

Hi Hokie, I've just started using Charlie's soap, too. I am on 'City' water at my house, and on a well at our cabin. I am currently using what is left of my Tide to pre-treat stains. I was pretty skeptical about Charlie's at first, but I am really loving it. I know that someone here mentioned that their whites look dingy after Charlie's. I've had the opposite reaction. My whites have never been cleaner or whiter. However, even though I don't have a washing machine at my cabin, I have given up handwashing ANYTHING there as my water is so hard that everything looks worse after handwashing. I go to the laundromat near our cabin and have similar disappointing results, regardless of the detergent, my clothes just don't get as clean as I would like. I'm not blaming it on Charlie's, Tide or anything else that I have purchased out of the machine. Up there, I blame it on the water. I hope that you find a solution. I just love the scentless, clean smell of my laundry with Charlie's.

You're in a very difficult situation, because once you move out of the country, you won't have any way of really keeping track of your baby or helping out if something goes wrong with the adoption. It sounds to me like there's a high likelihood that the American woman will declaw the kitten, which, like you, is something I wouldn't allow to be done to a feline I loved (or any feline, if I could help it). There's also the possibility that as the kitten matures, she may not get along with the woman's "wild" cat, and what happens to your girl then? If you have time to keep looking for a new family for your kitten, perhaps you can find one that can provide her with the love and attention you want for her, AND who feels the same way about declawing as you do. If there are animal shelters or rescues in China, perhaps you can ask them to help you find a suitable new home for your baby. Also, contact veterinarians. They sometimes know of responsible, loving clients who are looking for a new feline family member. I don't envy the position you are in. I hope you can find the perfect solution for both you and the kitten. Laurie

Chris, portable dishwashers do not sit on the counter. They can be as big as regular dishwashers, though usually they are smaller. You keep it somewhere in your kitchen or perhaps adjacent laundry room and when you're ready to do dishes you roll it over to the kitchen sink and hook up the hose to the faucet. Look online on the Sears appliances site; they have several models. You're thinking of countertop dishwashers, which I think Sears might carry too. They aren't too "portable" because they're heavy. My family's first dishwasher, when I was 11 or 12, was a portable. agmss15, if I were you, I'd go with the new Amana. I had a portable for two years when I lived in Mexico and I hated it. For one thing, when the machine is in use, you obviously cannot use your kitchen sink/faucet for anything else. Second, since the dirty water then goes down your kitchen sink drain, if your drain gets at all clogged, the dirty water backs up and you have a mess. If it all goes fine, you are still left with a dirty sink full of residue that you have to clean. Third, a couple of times the drain hose somehow got out of the sink and water went everywhere! You cannot leave your house when you're washing because if something goes wrong, you could come home to a flood and a lot of damage. I'd go with the mini Amana because a) while it's a new model, it's still a washing machine and Amana has been making them for decades. b) Amana is a well known and trusted brand with good customer service. c) who knows what you're getting with second hand? Yeah, you'll have to wait a couple of months, but in my opinion it will be worth the wait, because you'll save yourself tons of hassle over dealing with a used portable. I'd check online with the big box stores to see if you can get a better price over the local appliance store. Just my two cents'. :-)

If it's any comfort to you, I was without laundry for 6 weeks last summer while 8 months pregnant, with another in diapers and a preschooler at home. I tried to remind myself that at least we could afford new machines, but it didn't really help....

But now the new machines have speed cycles twice as fast, so I'm sort of glad it happened :).

Reno is hard. Sometimes you just need to vent. This too shall pass and you'll have a beautiful space to enjoy. Hang in there!

All things in time, Cal_Q. Easy to say, harder to live through. The good news is, MIL is nearby and she's probably better, cheaper and cleaner than a laundromat. Possibly, she's not as entertaining, but there's a trade off. I hope everything is done soon.

Thanks guys. Finding this out while listening to the guy scrape the walls (drywall) for hours on end, while surviving on a few hours of sleep and 105 degree heat...snap!

He's just about done. I can run to Chipotle and get a salad. I'll be fine.

If this is the worst thing that happens, I'll be lucky.

Still kicking myself for not organizing the tradespeople myself. I'd have been two weeks ahead. Wouldn't have gotten me a washer any sooner, but I wouldn't feel like I'm trapped/camping etc.

I will go back to school in dirty clothes.
