Having problems with Ticor ebay seller...

Last week (Monday, 7/21) I bought some polishing pads (I'm fabricating my own counters for bathrooms with silestone--I've done some already so it's o.k. :)) from "dawiff" on eBay, who I know lots of folks use for Ticor sink purchases...paid immediately through paypal, have the confirmation.

On Friday, I still hadn't received any confirmation from "dawiff" that the auction/payment was acknowledged, much less that my pads had been shipped. I wrote e-mails through both eBay and paypal message asking about them, and requesting a tracking number.

Nothing Monday. No reply, no e-mail.

Today, I finally decided to call, and was told "oh yes, I m just going to e-mail you the tracking number." Nothing about "I'm sorry for the delay" or "it was shipped last week"...The promise to e-mail the tracking number was two hours ago. No tracking number yet. No surprise. :(

I thought this company was responsible. Anyone have any insight into what may have happened? I thought this company was good to deal with, but this process has *not* been impressive at all thus far.

Sounds like he's stalling for some reason... People have lots of different reasons for doing things - maybe he doesn't have the item and thought he did...

Was the dollar amount small and they are just being lazy?

Not sure why, but it's surprising someone would not respond knowing they are risking their feedback.

I just bought my Ticor sink but the name of the seller is GalaxyToolSupply. Are we talking about the same company here?

As far as postage goes, I don't think sellers are making much if any money from postage. I charge $8.50 now for the smallest of boxes. That's $6.50 plus various charges we have to pay for gas for the postage van, which goes to the buyer. Outrageous, I know, but it's their charges, not mine. One year I had to pay about $2.00 extra postage for many clients. So I put my postal charges at a flat $8.50. This price is for a box of as many as 20 mini/semi leaves OR 8-10 standard leaves depending on leaf sizes or about 3-5 plants depending on size. Be sure to see the plant you will be getting when buying from ebay. One thing I hate is buying what I thought was a "starter plant". When it arrives, it is a baby plant with maybe 6 leaves all within the 2 1/2 inch pot, and some of those damaged. A starter plant should have leaves extending over the edge of a 2 1/2 inch pot. A baby plant has all its leaves within the pot and the price should reflect that. I have lost many baby plants. I'm a buyer as well as a seller. My best plants came from violets4you (great packing and large plants) and bloomlovers, who sells beautifully packaged "plugs," actually baby plants with no pot. These have always been in excellent condition. I've also bought from Travisviolets and these arrive in perfect condition. Montreal to California or Texas costs $11.50 for about 3 plants in a small box--not my charges, but those of the post office. Nancy (Montreal)

Hi Mariava: Oh man...I'm sooooo sorry to hear this is happening to you AGAIN! I'm always paranoid about someone taking my pictures from anywhere I've posted them and using then for their own gain. It's a sickening feeling. Mind you, I must say that several friends/coworkers have told me that ANYTHING I post on the net is considered public domain which is not leave me feeling warm and fuzzy inside....SO to that end, yes, there is a way to apply a watermark in photoshop and I'd be VERY happy to share it with you however I'm not sure what version of photoshop you use. With that being said, I'll give you the instructions here how to do this as best as I can. However if there are issues trying to do this Mariava, the best I could offer is to go over it via the phone ...that is if you're comfortable doing that. Trying to do this via messages or email might prove problematic. Here are the instructions for doing the watermark in photoshop: Click the text icon on your toolbar (the vertical one that appears on your screen). This will create a blinking cursor and another layer which will be the text layer. Make sure you choose black as the colour. Start typing what you want for your watermark (I usually have the copyright symbol, the year and then my name. The copyright symbol can be created by holding down the "Alt" key and typing in 0169 "") Once this text is entered, you'll notice that you have a extra layer. If it is not visible go up to the "window" tab on your menu bar at the top and select Layers which should bring up the layers tab. Once this is visible, right click on the text layer and choose "Blending Options". From there you should see a drop down list called "Blend Mode". Click on the little downward arrow which will drop the list. Select "Screen". When this happens the text disappears but don't worry..it's still there. From there, click "Bevel & Emboss" from the left hand side. You could leave it at this and be done but I sometimes fool around with "Contour" as well. Just experiment and go from there. Once all of that is done then hit "Okay". The last thing to do is to "Flatten" the layers so that you can save the picture as a JPEG. Simply go up to the Layers tab on your menu bar, drop it down and choose Flatten Image (near the bottom) and then you're done. Now while you have your text up there, you may need to fiddle with the size of it etc so that it appears the way you want it to. Here's an example of what it should look like when it's done: I hope that helps you out Mariava. I've done this on my photos and it works like a charm. I'm going to consider reposting some of my photos to Facebook so that they're plastered with the watermark all over which will make it virtually impossible for anyone else to use without destroying the Picture (it would be impossible for someone to edit that watermark out....trust me...I've tried). Anyhow...if you need any further clarification, let me know. There are a lot of good and honest sellers on ebay, however unfortunately you do get people that are in it completely for the money and beyond that donÂt really care about the quality of what they are selling. I don't believe that ANY seasoned iris grower would try to sell off what you have described. As mentioned above it sounds like what you have is the "mother" rhizome, or else you have rhizomes that were purchased at a box or wholesale store and either cut down or stored so long that the leaves are now gone. Which means you should get lucky with some of them and have small rhizomes starts on the side, but most probably won't do anything. Either way without any leaves at all your chances of the iris blooming the first (and most likely even the second year) are next to none. I donÂt know if the guy purposely ripped you off or just doesnÂt know what heÂs doing, but I would say most likely if heÂs been selling these "bulbs" for awhile then he knows exactly what heÂs selling. I looked up the seller and agree with what ymeador says about the pictures, I would say its extremely unlikely these are anything but packaged iris. Being that you are located in zone 6 I would not wait until next spring to see if they happen to live. People are usually always going to seem nice when they are wanting money from you and I have a suspicion that if this guy doesnÂt have the ebay transaction hanging over his head he will basically tell you too bad. Ebay gives you 90 days from the time the transaction ends before they delete all record of that transaction. If it was me I would probably give them about 2 more weeks, watering them just as you have, to see if there is any signs of growth...the new roots are a good sign, but 40.00 is a lot to pay for 8 rhizomes that just barely live. If there has not been any by that time I would email the seller and ask for a refund, if he refuses then file a fraud complaint with ebay.

Hey Love F., I have had bad experiences where the healthy plumeria plant or cutting I bought bloomed and proved to be something other than what I had purchased All three of these sellers were US sellers. One of the seller was in Hawaii and I can not mention her name here on G Web or her the business name she sold her plumies under as both her names are banned here (If you post her name or business name you get a warning that basically says that if you mention her names again you will be banned from G Web) but I guess the initials are ok TN. This sell and I had a good relationship and I trusted her and bought a ton of cuttings and plants from her over a 4 yr period I guess because she thought that we had a good relationship she could send me bogus plants and get away with it saying that it was a mistake... Once or twice is a mistake but many in a short consecutive period of time seems intentional. I paid 80.00 for a 11"cutting of Bill Morange that ended up being Daisy Wilcox, a Kaulanani that bloomed common yellow, and supposedly a special red plumeria that I paid 100.00 for a 12" 2 tipped cutting for 100.00 that ended up being Kimo, and there were several more that ended up being bogus also. The other seller was here in So Cal MG is the initials to her nursery. I spent about 4700.00 worth of plants from this seller, this was her wholesale pricing and she had a minimal dollar value you had to purchase. In this case I think since the seller was very, very old that the tags on the plants were mixed up by accident. I had bought a Nebels Rainbow that ended up being Nebels gold, a Hawaiian flag that was some kind of White plumeria. There was also an Ebay seller that everyone thought was legit in 2003 that was selling rare Thai Varities back in the day that were bogus. This seller was selling cuttings that were labled Thai Rainbow Peacock, nagchampa, and many other exotic named ones that ended up being kauka Wilder, Samoan fluff, and some other type of white plumies that kind of looked like Moonlight. This seller said that the person who shipped him the cuttings from Thailand ripped him off and that he didnt know that the plumies were fake. When everyone asked this seller who his source was he would not tell anyone who it was. If someone ripped you off wouldnt you want to out him and blast his name every where. I got ripped off for about 900.00, but unfortunately there were a lot of others that got ripped off also. Basically my point is that sometimes you get legit plants sometimes weather by mistake or fraud you end up with bogus plants. Best rule of thumb is buy from reputable sellers that stand behind their product and will replace or refund purchases that are either damaged, diseased or bogus. The other way to prevent mistakes with identity is to buy plants that are in bloom, usually you will have to go to the source directly to find blooming plants(in some cases if it is mail order you can call and ask the seller to send a blooming plant.) Personally other than those 3 examples out of literally almost 1000 plants and cuttings that I have bought over the years those are the only bad experiences I have had.

snow, it wasn't GalaxyToolSupply, which is one common one here, it was "dawiff", who has 99.6% positive, 1607 total feedback. They all say "excellent item, shipped promptly" etc...

neverdunn, I bought it at the "buy it now" price, which wasn't that much less than some of the 16-ga Ticor sinks he sells. I'm about ready to write negative feedback on him. :(

Don't give him a negative yet, it's only been a week. Technically he has 7-10 days to ship according to ebay/paypal rules. If I were you I'd wait until Friday and then file a complaint with Paypal (still no negative at this point). He'll respond to that for sure. The negative really doesn't impact him with a 99.6% positive and 1600+ feedbacks. It will only make him defensive and piss him off (IMHO)

Ah, thanks, jenelle--very smart. I'll wait until Friday and file with paypal. Your advice really helps. I never would have guessed from his feedback that he'd act this way.

Nice professional work there, guys. No telling what would have happened if I hadn't bugged them.

In contrast, a glass grinder I bought on eBay on Saturday was shipped out yesterday morning. That's more like it.

If you paid thru paypal you have recourse.
Go to paypal website and there are instructions how to dispute the sale.

Just to point out that doesn't necessarily mean you were dealing with Galaxy. If they are the importers for Ticor, they may be drop shipping for your vendor.

So, if you receive the item succesfully and it's in good condition, I'd ultimately leave him poitive feedback, or maybe no feedback. Maybe there were some other circumstances surrounding it.

Ebay changed the way feedback is calculated. Take a look at it and you'll see how neutral/negative now affects a seller.

writersblock, thanks for pointing that out--I didn't know it. I was surprised to see Galaxy listed on the Fedex tracker. hm, it's so complex...I'll try to ferret out who's who, bearing in mind what you said. Would origination locale be an indicator? This was from La Grange, IL.

gitananoel, thank goodness it looks like they finally made good on it and I won't have to do another dispute. The last one I did in 2004 was enough to last me for a while!

neverdunn, I'll look at the implications of neutral feedback. At this point I'm thinking neutral--I have no idea what would have happened if I hadn't continued to bug them. Sure seems like my shipment lag time was longer than other folks' they've sold to.

Well, you know, if there are any further problems you might want to contact Galaxy and ask them. If he is a dealer for them (they have lots, you know--even most of our local fabricators use either Ticor or Artisan these days), they might want to know he's not behaving well. Oftentimes, pressure from your supplier can make a much bigger impact than pressure from the customer side.

Are they really as good as Elkay or Franke? or do u really get what u pay for?

I really don't know anything about Artisan. I had a vague idea they were lower end than ticor, but I can't say for sure where I got that impression.

Does the auction description say that the item will ship immediately? Some sellers only ship once a week, and if your payment cleared after they got back from the post office, you have to wait until the next ship date.
