Light at end of tunnel reveals...WALNUT!

Yay! Some fun great stuff happening here finally. Our cabinets are being installed as I type and they are everything I hoped they would be. Thanks Boxerpups for showing me pictures of frameless inset. The door/drawer maker outdid himself and the installers rock! Crazy 100 year old house with uneven walls, ceilings, floors. Yay! Sorry so huge, resizing isn't working.

We have the WaveTouch Elux oven and love it. We bought it at the Sears outlet so we got it for half list price. You might consider checking their website. Note that items like these come and go very quickly. We spent a couple of months checking regularly before one came up. However we had intended to get the IQ if we couldn't fit the WaveTouch into our budget. I don't know what the differences are, other than the control panel. Note that the two ovens have very different vertical dimensions, at least in the 27" wide versions. We had to make adjustments to cabinetry to fit the WaveTouch. Good luck, Cheryl

They were doing a "rough clean" today. Monday the painters will be in to finish up. Electric meter to be installed on Wednesday and the movers are set for the 18th. There are still a bunch of details, but as soon as I can get more pictures, I'll post them. I've got a lot of information for anyone building on a steep site. Who would think there are steep sites in Texas -- but that's why Austin is such a great place. Oops. I mean Austin is horrible. No one move here. Please. No more.

Stunning -- absolutely stunning! I adore walnut and your cabinets highlight the full glory of the grain. I hope you intend for the wood to be the main focal point -- I can't imagine anything successfully competing with it. Just beautiful.

That's not just walnut, that walnut shimmers. The door style highlights the beauty of the wood. Wonderful! Love it! Can't wait to see the finished kitchen (bet you can't either).

Thank you all! It's really fun to have CONstruction instead of DEstruction for a change. MCMesprit- yes the wood will be the star and, after our "extras", will probably be the only cast member for a while... I was getting apprehensive about making our small kitchen into a cave, but the doors seem to be providing a lot of reflective surfaces - who knew. We just increased our storage by 1/2 and I can't wait to start putting stuff back. Floors resanded at the end of next week I hope.

Just a minute, I have to pick my jaw up off of the keyboard. . . AMAZING! Your cabs are so beautiful! I'll definitely be waiting to see MORE pics!

Thank you flwrs, remodelfla, and advanced. I really appreciate your kind words! I am truly skipping through the kitchen area right now, even though at 10.5' it doesn't take long. Advanced - they were modeled after our buffet. I couldn't decide what kind of cabinets I wanted (framed inset, overlay, etc) but when I told the GC/cab maker that I loved my buffet and asked if he could make that, he looked at me like I was crazy and said he could make anything. :-)

Beautiful...you have a gem in your cab maker. Your eye was certainly perfect when you asked him to "match" the sideboard. Can hardly wait to see it all completed. c

I love those cabinets - both the wood itself and the craftsmanship. The grain pattern is beautiful and the wood just glows. The crown is great - it is substantial, but very clean and simple at the same time.

I really want walnut cabinets and am working on the details now. Do you know if yours are black walnut or English walnut? How were they finished - was any stain used, or just an oil finish, or something else? They are truly lovely.

Thanks petra66, trailrunner, and adrienne2011! Nice to be in the "Walnut club" zacsDaddy! Kaysd, sorry I haven't responded, just looked at this post tonight. I'll ask about the type of walnut tomorrow. I know that we didn't use a stain, not completely sure about the finish - sorry!

kaysd- they are American black walnut, with a satin finish. Thanks for the post. They truly are the only nice things about the house at the moment :-) !
