Of all the things in my new kitchen one of the things that I love most  possibly because I use it most  is my huge soapstone sink. I had a half-n-half divided sink before. This time  because, like you, I leave dishes draining in one half  I had it configured to have one large side and one just big enough for a tiny hanging drainer. Sorry I haven't taken a pic since our construction is over but this is the clearest image I've got. The larger portion is 21 1/2" wide. The smaller one is just 9 1/2". It has the 90Ë slab construction you described. And it's canted toward the drain in each segment. Things do tend to aggregate in the corners. If I had it to do over again I'd ask that they exaggerate the angle to the drain somewhat. Even so, I take care to run some water and wipe out the corners with my dish brush with the water running every few days and that takes care of it. Only the grates from my stove top and a very large platter haven't fitted in the larger section. I considered a single 30" bowl that would have fit them too. But, in the end, I thought it was more important to provide the baffle to keep dirty water from splashing up on the draining dishes every single day than to be able to fit the grates flat every few weeks. And I still think that was the right decision. Mostly, the big sink is a continuing joy for piling in a whole feast's worth of dishes and washing up everything with greater convenience. I'm sure you'll figure out what's right for you and enjoy it as much. I ordered mine from Tom Shadley in SoCal. He got it shipped in from some other manufacturer to my specs. Don't know who he dealt with tho I did speak to an East Coast manufacturer who was willing to do it to my specs but was going to charge me much higher shipping than Tom did.

Like mine? Sadly, mine was two pieces, an aspect of the cheaper 'cut to size' deal I got from M.Tex. So I just epoxied the L back together. To cut the big notch out of a slab instead, I'd do it this way: Slab fully supported on rubber mats or styrofoam sheets, attach the straight edge guide to follow with your circular saw. Make the long straight cut up to the point you need to stop - a stop block on the edge guide would be good insurance against going too far. Move the guide and repeat for the other leg of the L. This will leave you with a small bit of uncut stone where the curve of the blade can't reach into the corner. With an angle grinder you can get a little closer, but still not all the way. So use it to lop off the corner at a 45 - this separates the big notch cleanly instead of risking it breaking away. Now you just have to use the angle grinder to bite away at the remaining chunk in the corner - best done with the piece up off the floor, but still well supported. Hope that makes sense! - Don

Not exactly sure what you are asking but here goes - the slabs I received from them (26"), had square front and back edges. One edge was better than the other - only needed minor sanding to finish it off. I didn't cut to depth. Didn't need to.

To answer your questions, by doing my own seams, I will be using my angle grinder to cut into the edge of the stone and create 'divots' for the epoxy to go into, which will then hold the two pieces together after I clamp them. I will be sanding it after that. I do a lot of woodworking, so have the tools and am comfortable using them. I have also watched a ton of videos on the subject, so I have the confidence that I will get it right. Now that the stone has been in the kitchen for a couple of days, it does have a couple of scratches (very minor), but those came out with a touch of the wax/oil product I use. My stone was cut and fabricated (by this I'm not sure what they did) at M.Tex in Denver. I never saw the stone except for a photo of it due to the lack of availability here in PDX. I couldn't be happier with it. It is smooth, has a matte appearance, yet shines up a bit with oil/wax. From certain angles, the color changes in the stone appears as raised areas even though they aren't- which I think looks pretty cool. I think the softness of the stone makes a difference with the honing process. I know my stone is one of the harder ones, and shouldn't scratch, chip, etc as easily, so perhaps doesn't need as much 'working' of it to get it to the right spot. I too was SUPER NERVOUS about this whole process. Getting an answer about soapstone in this city is like pulling teeth. I had been told they couldn't get it due to monsoons, that it was no longer available due to political concerns, I could buy the stone but they wouldn't let me install it without one of their installers, that it was "a horrible choice for countertops because its so porous" (that was from one of the 'recommended' installers), and on and on! It nearly swayed me away from it. I'm glad I had the 2 years to research it, so that I actually did get what I wanted.
