Pantry cabinets surrounding Fridge
Comments (0)I have 10 ft of space on this wall is currently setup like above. I met with the contractor this week to choose countertops and tile for the other part of the kitchen. I plan to place two thirty inch pantries coming from the corner and then the fridge, and that leaves 24" that I have been contemplating a broom closet. The broom and vacuum currently lives in the coat closet. I have found pics for the cabinet maker to go by and have a plan for how the outside should look but the inside overwhelms me. Everytime I try to think about what will live inside the spaces, I try to absolutely everything that is in all of the other cabinets in them and then obviously the other cabinets would be empty. One of the pantries should house all of the electrical gadgets as well as my "tupperware" type food storage containers. The other cabinet should house food. I can't figure out the best solution for what the inside should look like. Should I use pull out's or fixed shelving in each one. How about a 24" broom closet? Including trim they will measure 84" high. Also for the cabinet over the fridge, I know I want it full depth but otherwise no thoughts. Any advice appreciated! I had planned to submit payment for the cabinet maker to start building today but I just can't picture the insides. Thanks...See MorePantry or No Pantry? Can't decide...
Comments (31)I think your guests will be more comfortable sitting at an island than a peninsula. How much actual time do you spend standing at the stove? At the peninsula, you have two people in a small space, with one trapped in by the wall. That person gets to look at the side of a wall cabinet. There is no other view than you at the stove. Maybe you're a famous chef and they won't mind this. ;) In that case, an island cooktop is a better choice. If you need something from the walk-in pantry, they have to move. So most likely one will sit on the end, but where will you sit while you're waiting for the water to boil? The peninsula forces you into getting a breakfast table, further crowding the kitchen. That table is in front of the bathroom door. Not very appetizing. So with the island, they can sit or stand around it and help prep, as Foxcrane's guests did. If you turn the island, you'll have drawers facing the sink and a place for silverware and other items that come out of the DW. You can unload groceries onto the island, which is close to your entryway. You will take the path of least resistance doing these tasks, so with a peninsula, they will all shift to the small counter to the left of the sink, where you will probably need to keep a small appliance or two. I have never seen anyone resist an island when they have room for one. Islands are also more desirable for resale....See MoreSpace for fridge, micro and pantry: ideas? Also, a blank wall...

Comments (5)on p1 there's a thread showing some storage spaces - on the far right and down to row 13 (might be off by 1 row) it shows a drop down door front used as a 'desk' for a laptop. To the right of that pic is another that shows a file cabinet drawer. Or for the computer/laptop space it could be a slide out like used in the past on computer desks. There are options to think about. You could then still have a window over it with a cabinet on either side (with glass if you'd want that). Even if the view isn't so wonderful, the natural light is wonderful to have. Especially if you live where it is drab, dreary at times of the yr. Some people have had a window etched or frosted. I've seen pics of a window with a stained glass piece hung in front of it. Or even a sheer to fade the view but still let in light. I'd put the fridge on the run with the sink in it - for ice, water, stone, fire to flow. Just be sure there is plenty of space for opening the door(s) and a body to stand there - and not be in the way of the cook. I think on the back wall it'd be more likely to put someone behind the island....See Morepirula
