Not a resident expert, but from what I've seen here and elsewhere, it looks like most drawers have pulls. Cabinets can have either knobs or pulls, it just depends on the look you're going for.

I prefer pulls but I like a clean streamline look. You can definitely mix ORB with SS appliances.

The great thing is...any way you want!

When I did my kitchen I went through my collection of photos and counted
to see if one or the other was more popular. Kitchens seem to be evenly divided
over knobs on drawers/pull handles on cabinets and pull handles on drawers/knobs on cabinets.

Then there are some that do all of one or the other. It's all good.

FWIW I found a collection that I like and used both the knobs and the handles from it.
It was too hard to choose one or the other. Mine is knobs on cabinets/handles on drawers. :)

It's all a matter of taste and style. Drawers can have knobs, too. Mine do. :)

For function you want something that won't get too gunky--or better said, will be easy to clean if opened with gunky hands. Something easy to operate with one finger (assuming you have good quality rails). Something that's not hard for big or little hands.

Cup pulls (aka bin pulls) are very decorative, but you can only operate them from the bottom. For some, it's worth it for the style. For others, it's a no-go inconvenience.

Barrel shaped knobs--i.e., cylinders with no sticky outy parts--aren't the best for the kitchen because they're hard to pull with wet, or even slightly damp, hands.

Extra long Euro wire pulls are excellent because you can pull from any direction, anywhere along the length. The look is very simple and modern, but nothing exciting, and a bit tired.

I have mostly knobs. They're big and round so it's easy to slide a finger behind and pull out as if it were a pull. My few pulls are thick and solid feeling, and have room between the bar and drawer face for man hands, and not enough bar past the shafts to hook pockets.

Part of your decision depends on how much room you have to put the hardware in. If you have slab you can put it anywhere. If you have a framed panel (raised or inset), your choice either has to fit the frame or work well in the panel. In the panel, it really should be centered. An that's a very old fashioned (like centuries old) look. It's mostly used for drawers, where it doesn't have that medieval look. :)

A good location for a knob, or one shaft of a wire pull, on a frame and panel face, is the center of the corner. This is not necessary, however. It can be wherever you think looks best.

There are no rules! Its great but it also makes it difficult. I went with knobs on uppers and pulls on lower drawers. Knobs went on the following lowers: sink cabinet,super susan cabinet, and trash pullout. I have all drawers except for the cabinets just mentioned. I did 2 pulls on my 36" drawers but not anywhere else (18", 21" 30" just to name a few- these got one pull). No pics yet, because they are only partially installed.

Thanks for all the info. I am leaning towards knobs for cabinets and pulls for drawers and trash pull out. I also have a 36" tip out tray under my sink... maybe a pull (or 2??) there? My widest drawers will be 30", except for the one under the DO which looks to be 32". The top drawers are flat panel and the ones under it are framed panels. So I guess just one pull in the middle of each drawer? I think it'd look funny to have 2 pulls only on the 32" drawer under the DO and maybe on the sink tip tray. The pulls I am looking at are 3 3/4" wide... would one of those be adequate for a 30-32" drawer? We really like more of a traditional look and it seems the longer pulls are lean more modern.

I've seen some pics where they use one type of pull for the top drawers and a different one for the others when the top drawer is flat and the others are framed panels, but that just confuses me further! There really are too many choices. I wish there were some sort of written guidelines for this :).

The kd and I just kind of came up with a plan for which to use based on size of the door/drawer and how it would be used. I loved the pulls in my hardward, but we both felt that for my big drawers, we needed a more visually substantial pull. So we put a backplate behind the ones we are using on the big drawers that flank the range. But for the smaller, utensil-type drawers above the big ones, we used the knobs. On the other cabinet run, we used the pull without the backplate on the trash pullout, knobs on some drawers and pulls on others. We just made sure it was all symmetrical and pleasing to the eye. Here are my knobs and pulls. (Second time tonight posting these, I really love them! ;) )

One pull should be fine, even on your widest drawers. If you like the look of two on those, you can do that as well. Just make sure your pulls are okay on whatever man hands will be using them regularly. In your size, the shape of the pull will determine that. Could be just fine.

I have pulls on my drawers, trash pullout, pantry pullout and tall pantry cabinets to go with the pantry pullout and fridge handles. I have knobs on the doors, including the 4 doors above the pantry and fridge cabinets. Those don't line up with the pulls below (long story, but for good reasons), so I used knobs to be even more different -- and they are the same as the stacked cabinets on the other walls. I have 2 pulls on the 36" wide drawers below my cooktop and one everywhere else. I think one would have been fine, but the cabinet folks said that's what they usually did and I didn't have strong feelings one way or the other.

I think the ORB or a black would be fine. From what you've said, I'd probably do the same thing. I would certainly make the hardware choice driven by what I like with the cabinets and other elements and not to match a faucet.

Now, I just need to figure out how many of each knob/pull to order!

Everyone that I talked to said there were no rules for this. I wish there was because my GC said to make sure I know what I wanted, because after he drilled the holes, there was no going back. I went with pulls for drawers and knobs for pulls. Also, I ordered a few extra (based on recommendations from this site) in case they are discontinued in the future. Can't post pics because I don't have them yet.
