Faucet splashing help

Hi All,

Long-time lurker here in the Kitchen forum. I've just about finished a kitchen remodel!, I'm very happy overall, but have an issue with my faucet and sink.

I have a Hansgrohe Talis S, Semi Arc (04247) faucet and a Blanco 441-024 Stellar Super Single Bowl. The total distance between the faucet head and the bottom of the sink is about 21". Unfortunately, the faucet splashes water everywhere, particularly when used with standard spray. Mostly I end up with water behind the sink, but sometimes on the floor in front of the sink as well.

Hansgrohe sells a version of this style without the arc, (06462) which would reduce the total height from faucet head to the bottom of the sink to about 15". Flow rate is the same on both faucets a max allowable 2.2 GPM and both have full and needle spray options.

Before I make the contractor replace the faucet I want to be sure this will solve my splashing problem.

I hope so, as I love this style and am not eager to start my faucet search all over again. I've attached a picture of the kitchen so you can see the faucet.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I have a Hansgrohe Talis S. The distance from faucet head to bottom of sink with grid is about 20". Mine has a high arc, but, at rest and in its default position, the faucet head definitely points downward. Yours seems much more exposed and at risk of splashing.

I had some splashing at first (still do if I'm not paying attention), and I think most people with high arcs and deep sinks do until they find a technique. You do have to be mindful of what's in the sink and also the point of entry of your hands or dishes into the flow of water. Even though I might still splash a bit, the water has never ended up on the floor.

I'll try to figure out exactly what I've got today. Something else to consider if wooden countertops are in the idea bucket - - when your hands are wet, you'll transfer moisture to the handles (if any) and the countertop area unless you dry your hands before touching the handles. That'll be a habit everyone in your house will need to possibly do. I used to have butcher block countertops in some places. They were not very forgiving and, once, the wood did catch fire in a freak accident. My old faucet did have a pull out sprayer. The part on it that wore out first (at not an old age) was the button controls that had a rubber-like substrate with the buttons. The circular buttons developed cracks in the rubber around the buttons at about 5-6 years old. I'll look into the aerator issue - whether I have a built in one- and whether or not my faucet is high or low flow. There is no secondary aerator attached to the end - - those are kinda ugly IMHO. I am also no curious as to whether or not mine is lead free. My current faucet flow lands at the rim of the drain, if that helps. I'll try to photograph it later. If the faucet were farther forward, more of the splashiness would come on me than it now does. When my oldest is home this week-end from college, I'll see if she could video the whole thing.

andrelaplume2, hendricus is correct, the aerator eliminates splashing. If the screen becomes clogged/corroded, the aerator will not work and splashing will occur. You can clean by removing and soaking the aerator in CLR (Calcium, Lime & Rust remover). A good quality faucet will have ceramic cartridges. Kohler and Price Pfister both have ceramic cartridges. Kohler faucets come with a lifetime warrenty. Delta faucets usually come with plastic and rubber components which wear out faster. Take Care, Dan Martyn

vwhippiechick - how deep is your sink? We're planning on ordering the Elkay Arezzo pre-rinse faucet (pretty much the same height as the Parma) and a 9 1/2" deep Ticor sink and don't want to have a splash problem. I haven't ordered either yet. Thanks.

Debbie12153, there are two different features: one is having to hold the spray button down in order to spray, and the other is a default feature in which the faucet will automatically revert to regular flow when the faucet is turned off. The default feature is entirely separate from the feature where you have to hold the button down to stay on spray. From what you and Lharpie are describing, it is the default feature you want. Frankly, you couldn't pay me to own a faucet where you had to keep holding the button to stay on spray. But the default feature, for me, is a must. I have the Grohe Ladylux3 Plus. You do not have to hold the button for it to stay on spray, and it defaults to regular flow when you turn the water off. There is also a toggle button so that you can choose to go back and forth between regular and spray while in use. The Ladylux3 Plus is a pull-out style, not a pull-down. The pull-out faucets tend to have less splashing than the pull-down faucets. I have never found that the "ergonomics" of a pull-out are not as good, at least with the Grohes, but that is an individual decision. To the OP - excessive splashing may be from your water pressure, not your faucet.

Are you able to turn the faucet on and take a photo of the water going into the sink so we can see what's going on?

I have a Hansgrohe Allegro E and I hate it because of the splashing. I have a pretty deep Krause stainless single bowl sink.

I was recently looking at other faucets online and I noticed in the specs they all have different Flow Rates (gallons per minute). My faucet is one of the highest I've seen at 2.2

I'm wondering if I got a faucet with a lower flow rate if that would help?

Fog- where does the spray land in the sink?
Hitting uneven surfaces such as the drain or disposer flaps increases spraying(although sink grids are thin enough not to sploosh)

BTW- love the color of your backsplash!
