How many people are you planning to seat at this island? I'm asking b/c you need these minimums for island seating: 24" per person linear space Two people cannot share a corner 15" overhang of clear leg/knee space A 5'x5' island will not comfortably seat four. Expand it by a minimum of 3" (6" would be better) to get the minimum size for an island that seats four: 63" x 48" (Yes, even 3" will make a difference. Keep in mind that the 24" per seat is the minimum, not the ideal. Ideal is closer to 30" per seat.) Both island sizes (4'x4' & 4'x5') with seating on two adjacent sides will only accommodate three people: Note: The minimums are for short to average height/size people. If you and/or your family are tall, I recommend a deeper overhang with 30" per seat (but 24" per seat will probably suffice)...taller people generally take up more space overall.

I ordered a Waterstone faucet for my kitchen. It’s not ready to be installed yet, but sounds like it might fit what you’re looking for. Just an FYI, they’re a bit pricey.

It could be years before a remodel, you know how it goes, life gets in the way. Drywall's cheap. This is what I was meaning: RED is infill in the arch plane. BLUE is infill on the sides of posts. GREEN is infill on the angled wall plane as it looks like there is a silly recess there too. YELLOW is optional extend angled wall up to ceiling, but there is another silly notch there to complicate the cleanliness of lines. I also notice there is that short wall blocking the window (with the picture hanging), that looks like you can't walk behind it. In the future fix that along with the angled kitchen footprint.

Sigh... We have the exact same challenge - beautiful big window over the sink, awesome view but the southern exposure is blinding - especially in winter when the sun is lower! We have a light coloured & patterned honey-comb blind installed exactly as jk910 suggested you do - when it's up it's only 2.5" so it disappears. On sunny days I also have to hang my dish cloth over the arch of our chrome faucet - when the sun reflects off it's like a laser!
