kitchen sink--------stainless or silgranite?????

I am really confused with type of sink for kitchen since there are way too many choices. Do most like the stainless or Silgranite? I found a Franke stainless which was really nice but maybe will scratch. I found a Blanco Cafe Brown Silgranite that is nice but I dont know much about them. Please let me know what you think. I have to order a sink today.....thanks so much!

I've had the Blanco Silgranite sink in Anthracite for about 3 months and just love it. I had stainless before and definitely like the Silgranite better. I think it's partly a design choice too--we have soapstone counters and an ORB faucet, so I thought the darker sink would work better for us.

I had stainless for many years.
I now have Silgranite. Biscuit, in a white/creamy kitchen.

If I had to do it all over again. I would get Silgranite.
A coffee color or a bright color or biscuit color in my white/creamy kitchen.

The water is pretty dumb where I live and can't find it's way to the drain unless it runs downhill. Probably 99% of the sinks these days are installed in dead flat counter tops, and spills easily drip to the floor. With top mounts, splashes have to jump over the rim to get into the sink. Even with bottom mounts (in addition to their other problems) splashes are just as likely to find their way to the floor as into the sink. My favorite sink was in my first house: a cast iron monster with 2 drainboards and a foot-high backsplash. No seams to gather wet gunk. My second sink was stainless, totally seamless with the counter top and backsplash -- a custom job by the former owner. In my current house, I've had to make do with a stainless sink that has only one drainboard. But I want something better. I love the Clarion Farmhouse Drainboard Sink. It's like my first one, but too overpowering for my current kitchen. Ditto the many styles of commercial sinks. Then I found the Elkay Lustertone Series. It has 2 drainboards and I can fit a dishwasher under one of them. It has a modified raised lip. It has an integrated backsplash -- though I wish it were a little higher so that I could install a wall faucet through it. And it can replace an entire 6 feet of countertop surface, thereby mitigating its cost. The kitchen is still in the planning phase, but I know which sink I'll be buying. I guess I'm not explaining myself very well.... I've always washed my vinyl tile floor with an ammonia solution as recommended. Then, every 9 sq. ft. or so, I would rinse my sponge mop under running water in my kitchen sink. Always rinsing it before dipping it back into the pail of cleaning solution. I don't rinse the floor. I just rinse the mop off with the clean water. I had a porcelain sink before, so no problem. but now I have a new Silgranite sink and the cleaning and care info says do not put/use ammonia in the sink. I'm not wanting to clean the sink. I just want to rinse the sponge mop there. I'd like to find a cleaning solution that I can use on my vinyl tile and hopefully not have to go over a second time to rinse and won't harm the new sink. I have a large kitchen and an old body and neither of those is going to change, so I might have to change the way I clean my floor, but having one bucket of the ammonia solution and lugging a second bucket of water back and forth to the bathroom to dump and refill 3 or 4 times isn't working well. I had this same dilemma and ended up going with silgranite. The white wouldn’t have worked as well in our color scheme and the silgranite was a better option budget-wise. I’m so very happy with my decision. I had originally ruled silgranite out thinking it looked too modern, too cold, etc., but it’s actually really lovely. Ours is a Blanco. We’ve had it since last September and so far I have zero complaints. Cleans up beautifully, completely functional, and (I think) looks great. I know this was not your question :) Just throwing a third option out for you. Feel free to disregard!

We went with stainless for durability, longevity and look. It was very easy to find a matching faucet in brushed stainless. I stayed away from shiny finishes-smudges, fingerprints, etc. Our sink is a 16 gauge (heavy) and will last forever. We went with a single bowl because our sink cabinet is only 27" and I wanted the most space I could get. I also chose a deeper style, 10 inches, to fit more into the sink too. I am not very tall, only 5', so I won't have a bending over issue. If you are tall, you may want a shallower one. Once the sink arrived, I had to try it out. I fit a frying pan, four pots and their lids into it and still had room for a couple plates. All my cookie pans fit without tilting or leaning to the side (cool!). I just love our sink! We chose countertop stone with shades of blue to complement the steel. Awesome look. Just like jewelry, you'd wear goldtone with a brown dress and silvertone with a blue dress. The brand of our sink is Julien. Their products are top-notch. Pricier than most, but well worth every penny! I sacrificed some other items on the list to add it to the budget and I am so glad we did! After seeing it in person, I would have big regrets if we went with any other.

I like the look of stainless better....I have had mine (Franke) over 3 years and have hardly any scratches. I have grids in both.
